In Research & Development (R&D) we innovate and develop solutions for our onshore and offshore WTG products. We are responsible for design, verification and industrialization - laying the technological foundation that keeps Vestas a global leader within sustainable energy.
The Generator submodule consists of highly skilled employees, situated at our main locations in Portugal, Germany and Denmark. The department is accountable for the generator, converting the mechanical energy from the wind turbine rotor and drivetrain into raw electrical power. In the Generator submodule we build our designs on a long tradition of both in-house and externally supplied generator products, of both induction & synchronous types. We focus on providing solutions with predictable performance, reliability, and cost to the market.
Within this environment, we are looking for a Generator Engineer to strengthen our capabilities in design-for-manufacturing and industrialization of new generator products.
This role requires at least three days of on‑site presence in the office in Lübeck Travemünde.
Responsibilities
You will play a key role in integrating new generator products into the manufacturing environment, supporting design prototype builds, early-phase serial production, and continuous improvement initiatives. You will act as a technical link between R&D, manufacturing, maintenance, and quality, ensuring smooth product introduction and stable, cost-efficient performance.
You will work with advanced tools such as CREO, Windchill and Jira. All these activities, in collaboration with technical experts and project managers.
Main activities are:
- Drive the technical integration of new generator components and products into the manufacturing setup.
- Translate engineering specifications into process specifications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve product- and process-related issues occurring during early product life-cycle phases.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventive actions through engineering change management processes.
- Review of supplier deviation requests and non-conformities.
- Identify cost-out and -improvement initiatives.
- Communicate technical updates, risks, and recommendations to teams and stakeholders.
- Planning of own work in Jira.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent (e.g., German Diplom-Ingenieur).
- 3-5 years of proven experience in product engineering or maintenance engineering is preferred (desirable within drive technology).
- Excellent English language skills (speaking and writing) are required.
- Design for Six-Sigma certification is an advantage.
- Experience in global matrix organisation and/or within wind industry is an advantage.
