Vestas Asia Pacific & China provides both sales and service of wind power plants in Australia, New Zealand, India, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines and the emerging markets in North South East Asia (NSEA). 

 

Position Purpose:

As a Sales Manager, you are responsible to secure new wind turbine supply and service contracts in the Japan market in accordance with agreed annual sales volume and profitability targets

 

Key Accountabilities:

• Proactively maintain and develop existing and new customer relationships to ensure Vestas is always invited to submit proposals and/or exclusively partner for new wind farm projects 

• Develop a thorough understanding of each new project for which a proposal is to be developed and the key buying criteria / financial metrics upon which the customer will make their purchase decision

• Develop a thorough understanding of the competitors vying for the same projects as Vestas, their technical and commercial strengths and weaknesses, and where Vestas’ competitive advantage lies

• Present business cases for why Vestas should pursue each new project opportunity and obtain gate approval for the necessary internal resources to support pursuing such opportunities 

• Project manage internal cross functional team members from sales, technical support, construction, service, and legal to help develop, write, and submit compelling proposals / tender submissions that effectively communicate and sell the Vestas value proposition

• Ensure quality communication is maintained with customers and agreed follow-up tasks completed in a timely manner throughout the sales cycle 

• When short-listed or preferred supplier, ensure internal contract closing teams are established and ensure a detailed plan is developed, agreed, and executed with the customer through to achievement of firm order intake 

• Maintain detailed understanding of Japan wind energy market drivers and policy settings. Ensure country-based sales & marketing plans are maintained and acted upon to maintain Vestas position as the leading wind turbine supplier and service provider

• Provide accurate weekly reporting of current and future sales opportunities to ensure management and colleagues have the latest information at hand and priorities understood

• Act as company brand ambassador to ensure widespread recognition by customers, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders of Vestas being the global leader in wind energy and a company of quality and integrity with long-term commitment to the Japan market

 

Essential Skills:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Strong commercial acumen and financial literacy

• Able to develop and maintain strong customer relationships

• Ability to effectively manage Sales Manager direct reports and cross-functional tender teams

• Understanding of large infrastructure project economics and financial metrics

• Ability to negotiate large scale high dollar value project transactions to successful win-win outcomes

• MS Office Suite

• Adobe In-Design (in-part only)

• SAP (or similar) CRM pricing systems (in-part only)

 

Languages:

(Specific language needs)

• English – fluent verbal & written communication essential.

• Japanese – fluent verbal & written communication essential

 

Other Needs:

• Travel – some amount of domestic and international travel will be required from time-to-time

• Work Hours – flexibility to work outside of normal.
