Vestas Technology & Operations (VTO) represents Vestas' entire industrial system from Technology to Procurement, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Quality. In relation to Technology, VTO interfaces with Vestas' regional business units through its Frontend Engineering & Technology (FE&T) organization comprised of Regional Engineering & Technology (RE&T) teams and Global Functional Leadership teams.

 

Regional Engineering & Technology (RE&T) Asia Pacific (APAC) represents Vestas Technology in Asia Pacific (APAC), where we operate across the spectrum of Sustainable Energy Solutions with Onshore and Offshore wind at the core.

 

In RE&T APAC, we are responsible for technical requirements management, technical scoping and contracting, technical value engineering, technical risk management, technical implementation throughout the life cycle of a project, from Development to Sales to Customer Project Execution to Service, ensuring as such End-to-End Technical Accountability with regards to our engineering and technology solutions in the region.

 

The Offshore Technical Sales & Project Management team works on some of the renewable energy industry's most exciting technical value propositions and contracts, providing the link between our projects in Sales and Execution phase, with our customers and stakeholders in the Regional Business Unit and with our global Research & Development teams.

 

The Technical Project Manager role within RE&T is a highly diversified role that requires advanced technical skills as well as a solid commercial mindset and offshore operational skills. You will work with our construction project management group, our customers as well as global engineering and R&D functions, to deliver the best possible technical outcome for our offshore projects.

 

Responsibilities

  • The (Deputy) Technical Project Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing the technical aspects of large-scale construction projects, ensuring alignment with project requirements and objectives. The Technical Project Manager will act as the key technical authority within the project team and towards the Customer, providing guidance, direction, and solutions for all technical matters throughout the construction phase of a project.
  • The (Deputy) Technical Project Manager will ensure a clear understanding of the technical scope across the project team, coordinate the delivery of technical milestones, and address any technical issues that arise during the construction process. They will take ownership of maintaining the technical integrity of the project, ensuring all deliverables meet the required standards, timelines, and budgets.
  • In addition, the (Deputy) Technical Project Manager will maintain a close dialogue with the Pre-installation Project Manager, Technical Site Specialist, Installation Manager, and Commissioning Manager to develop collaboration, resolve technical issues, ensure seamless alignment, and encourage understanding of the impact of our technical solutions across the value chain and project lifecycle. The role demands effective communication, reliable leadership, and a responsibility for delivering technical excellence in an evolving and complex project environment.

 

Following intensive induction, you will be assigned to Vestas offshore activities in APAC.

  • You are expected to take full accountability for the technical execution of offshore projects.
  • You will need to network to build relationships with the key technical stakeholders in your customers' organizations, promoting their requirements inside Vestas and ensuring an efficient completion of offshore projects
  • You will be the link between the Offshore Construction Project Execution and VTO (technology organization) on your respective project(s) and topics.
  • You will develop an understanding of the offshore market and customer requirements as well as offshore operational knowledge.
  • It is expected that you adhere to and advocate our Vestas values, Simplicity, Passion, Accountability, Collaboration.
     

Qualifications

  • Engineering background (Electrical, Mechanical, Marine or related) combined with commercial insight/interest. Alternatively, commercial background with solid interest in the understanding of technical aspects.
  • Experience in directing technical negotiations of heavy machinery, power plant equipment or similar.
  • Previous experience in wind energy or industrial plant environment would be a plus
  • Proficient project management skills would be beneficial.
  • Fluency in business English - both spoken and written is required.
  • Business Japanese language skills-- both spoken and written is required.
  • Flexibility for travel.

  • Solid communication skills and prior experience interacting with a variety of technical and commercial stakeholders.
  • The ability to quickly adjust to construction demands, stay organized, and collaborate effectively with skills honed in pressured and diverse environments.
  • Results-oriented, with the ability to be innovative and creative in building a technical value proposition and exploring value optimization opportunities.
  • High level of customer focus, with a holistic understanding of how technical solutions affect a business case commercially and contractually.
  • Professional presentation skills with ability and confidence to present to business unit management.

Primary work location: Tokyo, Japan. This position requires roughly 100 days of travel per year.
