Vestas Development is an established strategic business unit within Vestas that is responsible for developing renewable energy projects from greenfield until ready to build. Vestas Development originate and support the development of new wind and hybrid high quality projects in Poland via its own in-house team as well as via development partnerships that are established and managed by the team. Vestas is seeking an environmental engineer / consultant to include as Environmental Specialist within its Development Team, to support and assist with environmental impact assessment and regulatory permitting for the wind farm projects under development in Northern and Central Europe (NCE) Region. The selected candidate would be based in Szczecin (Poland) but will work closely with the Environmental Lead Specialist for EMEA and LATAM and the Development.

 

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of project compliance with relevant environmental permits, regulations, and consent conditions.
  • Supervising the preparation and reviewing of EIA/ESIA reports, feasibility studies, environmental Due Diligence for onshore and offshore wind farm development projects.
  • Evaluating the implementation of environmental regulations and standards for wind farm projects, with a focus on the permitting procedures, both at national and international level, including bankable projects' standards (e.g. EBRD, IFC standards).
  • Contribute technical and subject matter expertise on due diligence reviews, environmental critical issues assessments, impact assessment deliverables, and overall quality control review.
  • Collaborate with other practitioners across the Regions to execute impact assessment and project permitting (services broadly include site screening, environmental constraints assessment, routing studies).
  • Engage with subcontracts in the preparation and successful implementation of project environmental assessment /documentation.
  • Perform site visits at project sites for the preliminary identification of potential environmental criticalities to be managed during the development phase.
  • Manage public consultation with stakeholders and meeting with Authorities, when needed during the permitting phase.

 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelors in a core science, environmental science, or related discipline, or demonstratable relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in the delivery of EIAs and the consenting process, natural resources management and related disciplines, at least in one of the countries of NCE Region (preferably UK, Ireland or Poland).
  • Local and international community engagement experience.
  • Expereince or good knowledge in Sustainability process and recporting.  
  • Good knowledge of geographic information systems (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS). Knowledge of OpenWind software is considered good to have.

 

Competencies

Familiarity with international best practices with EIA Regulations (and ESIA when applicable) and have experience of project work from Scoping to Examination.

  • Excellent report writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, clients, suppliers, etc.
  • Proficient knowledge of Polish and English language (other languages would be good to have.
