Lead Blade Engineer

About the Department:

In the Vestas Japan Service Operations department, our focus is to provide our clients with high quality and best possible production of their wind power plants. With our long standing excellent track record and service experience locally, we work to ensure that we manage our clients' wind farms effectively to get the most out of each turbines while upholding to our commitment to safety standards.


As Blade Technician you will collaborate at the blades maintenance process for the wind farms assigned, including preventive and corrective activities, blades inspection, within the corporate guidelines, quality certifications and legal regulations with the objective of reduction of service costs and to guarantee agreed levels of service.



  • Blade issue root cause investigation
  • Travelling extensively throughout Japan to customer meetings for delivery of Vestas perspective of blade issues, creation of BIR
  • Blade business segment development into profitable and growing segment
  • Business manager capable of creating a team in a matrix organisation
  • Validation and approval of component inspection report related to blades in Japan
  • Training and guidance to service blade technician 
  • Projects related to corrective and preventive action on the blade failures
  • Respond to technical inquiries from service personnel and customer relationship team
  • Support operations with tooling, up tower repair and maintenance /inspection expertise
  • Understand product technology around blade construction and repair and communication with internal customers and insurance company
  • Respond to technical queries from customers and insurance company
  • Develop and maintain Japan specific technical documentation related to blade inspection and repairs 




  • Technical diploma (preferably mechanical or electrical engineering) experience or similar relating to wind turbine blade manufacturing around spare or structured shell manufacture utilising carbon fibre and fibreglass matting
  • Several years’ experience in fibre preparation
  • Teamwork competencies and operational readiness
  • Willingness to travel extensively
  • Availability and flexibility to perform blade repair activities during summer period and standard service activities during winter
  • Ability to work in heights
  • Experienced investigation and analytical approach to root cause analysis and comprehensive reporting
  • Strong English fluency (written and spoken)
  • Knowledge in working with MS-Office
  • Driver’s license holder



  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter and be able to work with little supervision 
  • Strong diagnostic technical skills with emphasis on root cause analysis
  • Able to multitask and prioritize daily work under a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to prioritise tasks in accordance with business objectives
  • Experienced in dealing with often demanding customers
