Vestas are looking to appoint two apprentices to work and study in the North Scotland area in preparation for our Viking windfarm based in Shetland. They would report to the Field Support Team which covers UK & Ireland. This will involve a tailored course working towards a certificate of Modern Apprenticeship (MA) delivered in partnership with Inverness College UHI plus at least an HNC supplementary college course to be attended through day release in years 2-4.


Your main responsibilities will be: 

  • 6 monthly and Annual Servicing of the Wind Turbine Fleet
  • This can involve replacement of Filters, brake components, oil samples, general Turbine cleanliness
  • Mechanical Fault Finding on Wind Turbine Breakdowns - This could involve replacement of Yaw gears, Bearings, Gearboxes, Generators, slip rings as examples
  • Electrical Fault Finding - This could involve use of multi-meters to trace wiring faults or faulty motors, circuit breakers as examples.
  • Daily disciplines will include safety checks on all PPE, preparing parts at Service Base, maintain a clean and organized Service Base, clean and organized work vehicle.
  • Daily communications with Supervisor, Lead Technician, Local Technicians, Planner and Tech Planner, Customer Service Engineer and also our Customers.
  • Health and safety awareness, including risk assessments and safe working procedures
  • 5S regime & workshop cleanliness



  • The right candidate will have an aptitude for engineering work
  • Hold Scottish National 5 Grades (or equivalent) in English, Maths, a Science subject and Craft/ Design Technology (if taken).

  • Communications really matter; you will work with a broad and diverse group of people and need to get your point across in the best way possible.
  • Comfortable to be able to work at height of 100 metres and in adverse weather conditions (akin to seasickness, motion etc.)
  • Good problem solving and fault-finding skills
  • Experience of team working
  • A Innovative approach, be self-motivated and well organised
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
