MED Power Plant Solutions is the department accountable for value engineering, contractual risk management, execution & product management on grid connection & plant control solutions in Vestas power plants along the full project value chain (Development, Sales, Construction and Service stages) in Mediterranean Region, including South European, African, Middle Eastern countries.

 

Responsabilities

• Grid Connection Codes scouting & interpretations and pro-active communication with Transmission Operators in Southern & Eastern Africa's countries with special focus on South Africa

• Input Grid related market requirements to Vestas R&D ensuring future compliance and consistency of Plant offerings

• Provide technical support to Sales Dept. during contract negotiation and bid definition in relation to electrical and grid requirements in order to comply with the applicable standards and technical specifications of the customer

• Participation in team selling approach and building value in each individual project and different customer profiles

• Technical review of the customers' tender documentation and related risk mitigation on project specific basis

• Drive business case optimization and value engineering initiatives for Grid Plant offerings

• Contractual Annex preparation

• Provide technical support to the project execution and commissioning in relation to the electrical and grid requirements specific of the project and to the design, implementation and testing of wind power plant control solutions:

• Coordinate and support activities with the internal stakeholders on plant electrical model implementation and validation

• Coordinate and support activities with the internal stakeholders on electrical simulation studies to define the wind power plant performance according to site specific grid conditions and requirements

• Prepare site specific functional design specification for the park level controller and wind turbine generators based on grid requirements and simulation studies

• Prepare project specific grid compliance test plan noting the requirements, and with an understanding of plant limitations

• Engage power systems engineering consultancies when required

• Provide technical support to customers, contractors, grid operators & utilities (ESKOM, RETEC), in relation to wind power technology performance and capabilities to ensure their integration into plant design and system interconnection.

 

Qualifications

 

• M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering/Power Systems

• 5+ years of relevant work experience on grid connection of Renewable power plants from Wind or PV Industry or from System Operators (like ESKOM and RETEC)

 

• Knowledge about wind power technology (electrical design and control of WTGs and PPC)

• Knowledge about electrical simulation SW like Power Factory

• Knowledge about electrical simulation SW like PSCAD, or open modelling libraries and tools will be advantageous

• Knowledge about ESKOM grid connection code requirements & process

• Knowledge about power system stability, control and analysis

• Knowledge about Power Quality assessment

• Knowledge about HV, MV equipment and Substation design

• Knowledge about Energy Market in South Africa will be an asset

• English language, both written and spoken.
