Risk and Contract Management Specialist LATAM

The Risk and Contract Management LATAM team, part of Customer Project Execution (CPX), is responsible for protecting Vestas' commercial interests throughout the lifecycle of renewable energy projects across Latin America. Acting as a strategic partner to Project Management, Bid Management, Procurement, Legal, Sales, and PMO teams, the function ensures effective project execution while managing contractual obligations, commercial risks, and value protection.

The team supports projects across Brazil, LATAM North, and LATAM South, covering the entire project lifecycle from sales handover through execution, service handover, and project close-out. Its mission is to improve contractual governance, promote risk awareness, support claims management, and safeguard project profitability.

Key Responsibilities

Contract Management: Manage contractual and commercial aspects of assigned projects throughout their lifecycle. Responsibilities include reviewing customer contracts, amendments, variation orders, and contractual correspondence; maintaining contract records and document governance; developing Contract Execution Strategies; and advising project teams on contractual rights, obligations, and compliance requirements.

Risk Management: Identify, assess, and monitor contractual risks during bid and execution phases. The role involves conducting risk assessments, developing mitigation plans, supporting lessons learned initiatives, and promoting risk awareness among project stakeholders to help prevent value leakage and improve project outcomes.

Claims and Commercial Management: Handle customer and subcontractor claims management activities, including preparing contractual notices, entitlement analyses, supporting documentation, and negotiation strategies. The specialist will support commercial recovery opportunities through claims, change orders, and variations, while also assisting with dispute resolution and insurance-related matters when applicable.

Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner closely with Project Managers, Procurement, Legal, PMO, Bid Management, and Sales teams to support project execution and contractual governance. The role may participate in customer discussions and commercial negotiations and contribute to developing contract management capabilities across the organization through training and awareness initiatives.

Continuous Improvement: Support the implementation of regional and global contract management frameworks, contribute to process improvements and digital tool adoption, share best practices, and help build commercial discipline and operational excellence across LATAM.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Law, Business Administration, Engineering, Project Management, Commercial Management, or a related field is required. Postgraduate studies in Contract Management, Commercial Management, Construction Law, Project Management, or Risk Management are desirable.

Experience: Candidates should have at least five years of experience in contract management, commercial management, claims management, project management, legal advisory, or related functions. Experience in construction, infrastructure, energy, renewable energy, EPC, or industrial projects is highly valued. Demonstrated experience managing contractual risks, claims, and complex commercial issues in multicultural and cross-functional environments is essential.

Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of contract administration, claims management, commercial risk management, contractual compliance, governance, change management, and project execution environments. Familiarity with contractual frameworks commonly used in EPC, construction, energy, or infrastructure projects is desirable. Advanced Microsoft Office skills and experience with contract management or document control systems.

Languages: Fluent Portuguese and English are required. Spanish proficiency is beneficial due to the regional scope of the role.

Competencies

The ideal candidate will demonstrate solid commercial acumen and understand how contractual decisions influence project profitability and customer relationships. They should possess a proactive risk mindset, identifying potential issues early and developing effective mitigation strategies.

Effective strategic thinking, negotiation, and clear communication skills are essential to support commercial decisions and stakeholder engagement. The role also requires methodical and systematic problem-solving capabilities, enabling the individual to navigate complex contractual situations and develop practical business solutions.

Collaboration is critical, as the position works across functions, countries, and cultures throughout Latin America. Candidates should demonstrate reliability, integrity, sound professional judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to perform in changing project environments. Effective communication skills, including the ability to present contractual analyses and recommendations to technical, commercial, and executive audiences, are also important.
