The Siting Solutions Department is a Technical unit support function accountable for providing full energy resource and suitability support for Development activities, prospecting new sites, defining optimized measurement campaigns, visiting greenfield sites to identify possible siting risks (noise, shadows...), project constraints to optimize plant layouts and turbine configurations which satisfy both internal requirements, such as wind and solar climate conditions, AEP, CFs, lifetime, warranty, loading, safety, contribution margin maximization, but as well as external requirements levelized cost of energy, finance-ability, and business development preferences.

 

Responsibilities:

  • The Siting Solutions team is responsible for the market climate requirements mapping, site prospecting, measurement campaign definition and management (scope external consultants, approve equipment specifications, report on campaign status), turbine selection, siting and optimization.
  • Technical interface with siting consultants hired for siting assessment work (need an IE for bankability) and representing Vestas at relevant industry conferences/workshops as well as establishing and growing strategic relationships with engineering counterparts within Vestas key customers and influential third-party consultants.
  • Using functional expertise in the area of turbine siting and optimization, the Siting Solutions team interacts with internal and external stakeholders, and partners for co-development opportunities to compile project data/constraints and then defines the extent of the analysis to be carried out by the Global Siting Center team. The Siting Solutions engineer reviews analysis results and directs iterations as needed to achieve an overall optimized solution in support of Vestas strategic approach to each project.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors / Master degree in Physics, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Wind Power Engineering (other degrees considered with experience)
  • Fluency in Italian and English
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in Wind / Energy Resource Development department, supporting the business development team on prospecting activities; greenfield assessments, supporting permitting activities, defining met masts and remote sensors (LIDAR or SODAR) characteristics, defining temporal and spatial representativeness of the measurement campaign to reduce uncertainties, layout design, energy yield, and uncertainty assessments, completing energy and suitability analysis for industrial-scale wind and or hybrid power plants. Including experience in Business Development, Contracts / Procurement, and Sales support roles.

 

Competencies:

  • Experience with IEC standards for wind turbine design and completion of power performance testing.
  • Experience with operational performance assessments of wind and solar power plants, using Vortex, WAsP, WindPro, OpenWind, CFD, or Mesoscale modeling for wind power applications, PVSyst or SolarGIS for solar power plants, and GIS systems for development purposes.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems analytically and methodically.
  • Ability to work in a time-sensitive setting and prioritize in a busy / deadline-oriented environment
  • Should be a highly motivated person and be able to work with little supervision
  • Travel availability across the region based on customer needs and company expectations.

Additional information:

This position is responsible for developing project/customer Siting (Wind and Hybrid) solutions in support of Wind Power Systems business development. This includes providing direct support on the knowledge, development, and presentation of solutions to Vestas customers up to, during, and following the completion of sales or development agreements. This position is located in our offices in Rome.
