Vestas Mediterranean "Grid Solutions" is the department accountable for value engineering, contractual risk management, execution & product management on grid connection, grid compliance & plant control solutions in Vestas's power plants along the full project value chain (Development, Sales, Construction and Service stages) in the Mediterranean Region, including South & East European, African, and Middle Eastern countries.

"Vestas Development" is a Grid Solutions' key stakeholder. "Vestas Development" is a business unit within Vestas, dedicated to expanding the business by originating and developing new wind projects globally.

The department operates through in-house resources and strategic partnerships, supporting Vestas' broader turbine business.

This position is focused on supporting Projects Development in MED markets with special focus on Italy and Spain.

Responsibilities

  • Grid Connection Application procedures scouting & interpretations and regular engagement with System Operators in MED market area (with focus on Italy & Spain)
  • Collection of transmission grid atlas in MED market area (with focus on Italy & Spain), including intel gathering and market analysis
  • Development in cooperation with Vestas R&D and standardization of new tools for electrical/grid support to Projects Development
  • Technical meetings with consultants, contractors, grid operators & utilities, customers

Providing direct support to Projects Development team in respect of grid capacity identification, grid connection application and preliminary electrical design management with focus on adding value to and managing risk for the business:

1. Grid Capacity Identification:

  • Scanning Grid Capacity availability from System Operators regularly, including competition surveillance (Spain)
  • Technical consultants' coordination to prepare "preliminary studies" for identification of areas where grid capacity is available and related network constraints to connect wind projects and carefully review them
  • Grid Capacity Tenders assessment & technical solution proposals (Spain)
  • "eBoP conceptual design" definition and technical feasibility assessment
  • Gathering reference prices for eBoP equipment to estimate eBoP CAPEX

2. Grid Connection Application:

  • Technical consultants' coordination to prepare technical documentation for grid connection application (e.g., STMG in Italy) and review it carefully
  • Supporting the project development team in technical matters to be addressed to System Operators during the grid connection application
  • Grid connection applications status and recurrent follow-ups
  • Negotiate grid technical requirements and preparation of contract documents to secure necessary grid agreements

3. Preliminary Electrical Design management:

  • Coordinating technical consultants in the preparation of the "Preliminary Electrical Design" (e.g. substation/collection system / electrical equipment sizing calculations and specifications/drawings), related design interfaces (e.g. electrical / SCADA / civil) and related Bill of Material
  • Preparing and reviewing single line diagrams, layouts, schemes of measurements, controls and protection systems
  • Design and negotiate "Shared Infrastructure Agreements" with other developers, together with the respective Project Manager
  • Engaging a Grid Engineer to ensure that the designed grid connection solution complies with Grid Connection Performance Requirements
  • Coordinate and support activities with the internal stakeholders on electrical simulation studies to define the wind power plant performance (electrical losses, grid code compliance) according to site-specific grid conditions and requirements

Qualifications

  • M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering/Power Systems
  • At least 3+ years of experience in a similar position from RES project developers or TERNA (Italian TSO) grid connection team
  • Knowledge about grid connection applications and related requirements for RES power generation
  • Knowledge about HV and MV equipment
  • Proficient Italian and English language skills, both written and spoken

Additional information

This is a hybrid position based in Rome, Italy and requires up to 15% of travel per year, both national and international travel.
