Python Developer

Who are we looking for?
Vestas is currently seeking to fill a Python Developer position at our Data, Simulation & Modelling team, Design Centre Porto, Portugal. The position is globally responsible for development and implementation of new tools and methodologies for adequate climatic evaluation, wind resource mapping and micro siting. The Data, Simulation & Modelling team is working in very close collaboration with Vestas’ Advanced Plant Modelling team in Aarhus, Denmark. Together, the two teams form an active expert- and research service center with a staff of highly dedicated scientists from several nationalities having competencies in Meteorology, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Geophysics, Mechanical engineering, scientific computing, HPC, mathematics and statistics.

Responsibilities:

  • You will be one of the key drivers of designing and developing the applications built in the framework of Vestas Power Solutions but mainly from the Data, Simulation & Modelling project portfolio.
  • Working closely with specialists/engineers to determine technical direction of solutions across departments.
  • Design and implement functional requirements.
  • Build efficient back-end features in Python.
  • Manage testing and bug fixes.
  • Promote good coding practices within the team.
  • Prepare technical documentation.
  • Interfacing with stakeholders, 3rd party consultants and other partners.
  • Implement software enhancements and suggest improvements.
  • Ensuring timely delivery, quality and meeting project deliverables on time in full.

Qualifications:

  • A relevant IT education at Master level (5 years) + minimum 3 years of experience working with software architecture in applications/systems or similar.
  • Highly proficient in Python programming language.
  • Professional experience building software solutions (preferably Linux environment).
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools and versioning best practices. 
  • Experience with Python frameworks.
  • Knowledge of object-relational mapping (ORM).
  • Experience with international research projects and networks.
  • Experience in R&D activities within the wind industry would be preferable.

Additional information:
Primary work location will be at Vestas Power Solutions Office in Porto, Portugal. You will work closely together with colleagues in Aarhus, Denmark. Up to 20 days traveling days per year shall be expected.
