Loads and Control Engineer Trainee

As a part of Vestas Power Solutions, the Control department is responsible for developing future control solutions ensuring optimal performance of our products under all conditions. The responsibility spans from strategic development of new turbine control technologies to delivering a control solution for a specific product ensuring an optimal cost of energy. The department consists of highly skilled, multinational, and skilled engineers and assumes full accountability of all aspects of the control solution delivered to the products.

 

Responsibilities

Together with your colleagues you will be responsible for:

  • Feasibility studies of new wind turbine products aiming at optimizing power, loads, and noise performance through innovative use of sensors, controllers and actuators
  • Perform product level design studies within loads, including blade design iterations, tower iterations, wind turbine aeroelastic stability, etc;
  • Implementation of control algorithms in MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow
  • Development and validation of wind turbine aeroelastic models;
  • Verification on all levels, including software tests and field testing
  • Development of code/scripts and improvement of processes to ensure a lean and efficient execution.

 

Qualifications

You must have:

  • MSc. degree in Control/Mechanical/Aerospace/Aeronautics Engineering or similar
  • University experience in Machine Dynamics, or structural design, or aeroelastic modelling, or aerodynamics
  • University experience in Control theory
  • University experience in programming (Matlab, Simulink, Python, other scripting languages might be suitable as well)

 

You may have:

  • Experience in control development, verification and Tuning
  • Knowledge in Adaptative, Optimal, and Robust Control
  • University experience within wind turbine design industry
  • Knowledge of basic wind turbine control strategies
  • Knowledge of aerodynamics and aero-elasticity
  • Experience with MATLAB embedded coder
