Design Centre Porto

Nacelle Transport, Construction & Maintenance is a part of the Power Solutions business unit in the Vestas R&D organization. The department is accountable for developing and maintaining standard work processes and tools for transport, installation and maintenance of wind turbines.

 

Responsibilities

  • Plan and ensure development of global construction work processes for new wind turbines according to the set specifications/requirements
  • Tool concept development for transportation, construction and maintenance of the wind turbine major components
  • Create new concepts for turbine installation as well as optimize existing processes
  • Design performance and reliability including lifetime estimates of the design
  • ood understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals and design engineering
  • Take part in testing, verifying at site
  • Coordinate internal and external stakeholders and interfaces
  • Create documentation related to design and for suppliers
  • Design risk associated to the design
  • Design safety

 

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience within production, supply chain, production, installation, maintenance or other handling of wind turbines or other large components in other industries
  • M. Sc. Within Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering or similar (+3 years relevant engineering experience)
  • For example experience with conducting feasibility studies

 

Competencies

  • You possess good communication and presentation skills in English, both written and verbal 
  • You are able to develop processes or concepts for larger components in either wind, maritime, construction industry or similar
  • You have a good understanding of risk assessment tools (PFMEA, process mapping etc.) 
  • Knowledge on Machinery Directive and harmonized standards regarding safety of machinery 
  • Experience in standards and requirements from HSE authorities for safe work in the turbines
  • Experience on Design verification and validation: Good Mechanical understanding
  • Knowledge about test setup
  • Experience in design, specification and documentation of internal cranes, access ways (platforms & ladders), safety equipment
  • Knowledge about FEA calculation
  • Sourcing understanding
  • Focus on the project scope and able to understand the impact a scope change will have on the project
  • Accountable and focus on deliver on time
  • High degree of personal planning
