Do you want to move a company like Vestas to the next level? Are you excited about applying new knowledge and being able to influence things from the beginning? Then you might be the new Director, Logistics Operations, responsible for Vestas' tools activities in North, Central, and South Americas. This is your chance to supervise a key market in a newly formed division supporting regional operations in our global matrix organization across the entire value chain.
 

Sales / Global Construction Management / One Tool Unit 
One Tool Unit is a new unit being set up in Vestas to own, operate and organize a broad variety of tools for internal customers across the entire value chain of Vestas. This includes tools used in transportation, manufacturing, and production, construction, and installation, as well as servicing of our Wind Turbine Generators. The focus of One Tool Unit is to provide the right quality tools and tool services at the right time and place, at the right price with a high focus on safety. Our newly appointed Director, Logistics Operations will be reporting to both the Head of One Tool Unit as well as senior regional management of our internal customers. The Tools AME Head of Market role is to ensure progress on Vestas' journey to become a global leader in sustainable energy solutions. This person would also partake in Must-Win Battles (strategic priorities and projects selected as crucial for our mid-term priorites delivery), esp those relating to Quality and Sustainability. 

 

Responsibilities 

The main responsibilities and task related to this position are divided into five key areas:

1. Commercial management:

  • Agrees, implements, and monitors performance management and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) with internal customers across different divisions in the region.
  • Ensures tools performance reviews and innovative monitoring/updating of targets.
  • Agrees, monitors, and controls operational procurement limits for the region.
  • Negotiates and agrees regional business/delivery requirements and enforces them through Service Level Agreements.
  • Responsible for prioritizing, escalating, and mitigating business risks across Vestas' value chain.

2. Operational management:

  • In charge of regional tools centers operations according to main KPIs within safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Responsible for coordinating regional operational short-term planning of tools within the overarching Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) and Sales & Operations Execution (S&OE) framework.
  • Agrees and optimizes annual tools budget in collaboration with internal regional customers and ensures the link to global tools budget through centralized processes and with reference to Head of Tools.
  • Understands differences in offshore and onshore setup and organizes operations accordingly. 

3. Stakeholder management:

  • In charge of coordinating relationships with internal regional customers and representatives (Research & Development, Manufacturing, Global Supply Chain, Construction, Service, Finance, etc.)

4. Strategy and Business development:

  • Participates in stipulating and deploying strategic initiatives supporting the overall tools strategy.
  • Supports global & regional business strategy implementation
  • Supervises regional logistic tools distribution footprint and ensures regional end-to-end inventory management, enabling optimal tools utilization and inventory sharing within the region, as well as with other regions/divisions.
  • Collects and feeds knowledge sharing and best practice learnings into the global unit.
  • Implements market-applicable optimization and cost–out initiatives in the region.
  • Ensures great work ethic e.g. through unified framework/processes within the region.

5. People management:

  • Building and strengthening the regional organization to ensure a well-motivated proficient team, able to handle the substantial growth of Vestas.
  • Working with situational leadership with a focus on the individual's development using internal tools as Continuous Performance Development, career and succession planning

Qualifications 

  • Master's degree in engineering, business, supply chain management, organizational science, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of management experience within a complex matrix organization is needed
  • International experience in a global multicultural environment is a preference
  • Experience in management disciplines is required. Examples of disciplines would be strategy development, change management, employee survey engagement, customer relationship management, business cases development, lean manufacturing, supply chain management, or similar.
  • Professional communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Experience in Microsoft packages, SAP, BI, or equivalent EPR knowledge.

Additional Information

This position is located in Portland, Oregon. With an estimated 60 days per year of travel. (20 – 25% travel).
