Manager, Field Support

The Manager, Field Support is responsible for the leadership, management, and overall achievement of the Construction Field Support Coordinator (FSC) team. Ensures the team effectively meets key milestones and performance in the areas of site readiness, inventory management, project support, procurement, NCR management, cost recovery, project closing, and document control for wind turbine construction projects in the US and Canada. The manager is responsible for supervising and developing team members who are committed to continuous improvement and operational efficiency. Establishes and encourages collaborative relationships and an inclusive environment.

 

Responsibilities

Resource Manager

  • Conducts safety discussions and serve as an ambassador for an injury- and incident-free safety culture at construction project sites
  • Supervise a team of Construction Field Support Coordinators, providing direction, mentoring, performance feedback, and development guidance
  • Recruit, develop and retain a pipeline of Construction Field Support Coordinators, comprised of both Vestas employees and third-party contractors, who have the primary responsibility to organize document control, inventory, logistics, and procurement at construction project sites in the US and Canada
  • Align with Vestas recruiting initiatives for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Support enhanced business performance, quality control, and efficiency
  • Coordinate priorities and deliverables between groups.  Regularly communicate with Supply Chain, Transport, and Global Tools NCSA.
  • Ensure the FSC team follows defined business processes and utilize SAP transactions correctly
  • Implement new processes and best practices as required for the team to implement at a high level
  • Sustain and further develop a peer-to-peer mentoring network to effectively train new team members and improve project controls
  • Assign and deploy Field Support Coordinators to construction projects, service sites, and special projects, matching seasonal supply and demand of available resources
  • Strategically ensure scalable department to meet construction project support requirements
  • Establish FSC Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and ensure that targets are met
  • Forecast headcount requirements and organize an annual operating budget for relevant cost center
  • Review and approve time entries, expense reports, and travel commitments for the FSC team

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS) in business, communications, or equivalent experience
  • 5 years experience in management and leadership position
  • Experience supervising remote employees, for instance, in construction projects
  • Good understanding of SAP modules and functionalities
  • Good knowledge of financial guidelines and principles
  • Understanding of reporting tools
  • Basic Wind Turbine site construction knowledge
  • Cross-cultural insight and understanding
  • Ability to align goals of the function with business strategy
  • Ability to select, build and retain an efficient team
  • Proven ability to coach and develop people
  • Identify policies and procedures to advance business performance
  • Professional written and oral communication skills
  • Use judgment and decision-making to plan to develop strategies within areas of responsibility
  • Ability to travel 40% of the time to construction project sites across the US and Canada

 

Competencies

  • Will be required to travel and work directly from a construction site about 30 - 40% of the time. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Regular and reliable attendance
  • Ability to interact frequently with others in a professional, courteous manner
  • Ability to effectively supervise and coordinate a team
  • Will be required to possess a valid driver's license

Additional Information

This position is a remote opportunity that supports our construction group in Portland, Oregon.

Estimated travel for this role is 30 - 40% of the time. About 1 week a month. Mostly within Canada/US.
