The Lead Project Manager, Greenfield Project Origination, New Markets leads a group that is responsible for determining appropriate market entry and timing of renewable energy projects and for the siting and selection of primarily wind and wind/solar/storage hybrid projects. They will work with Development Leadership and Market Intelligence to develop strategic market entry plans and implement strategies for the growth of Vestas Steelhead's development portfolio.


The candidate should have a thorough understanding of market fundamentals, GIS and the ability to use existing and develop new methodologies to conduct spatial and quantitative analysis. This position will use GIS to identify targets based on topography, resource, transmission, environmental, airspace, and market fundamentals. The person in this position should be organized, an effective communicator, capable of coordinating multiple tasks, and work effectively with employees both internal and external to Vestas Steelhead.


The position will report into the Senior Director of Commercial and Business Development. Under limited supervision, position will lead team members in projects related to energy industry specific GIS application, technology tool, and database development, research, spatial analysis, and map production supporting prospecting. Position will identify, evaluate and carry out renewable energy project development by leveraging current Steelhead tools and other industry specific data sources. Position may act as an individual contributor or may act as project leader for others in the department and across business units.



  • Support department leadership to develop strategic plans and implementation strategies for the growth of renewable energy portfolio.
  • Work closely with departments within the Commercial and Business Development group, including Project Development, Environmental & Permitting, Meteorology, Real Estate and Acquisitions & Structuring.
  • Evaluate market and risk analysis on power and gas markets in short and long term. This includes developing market view on fundamental market drivers, i.e fuel costs, demand, changes in grid, renewable standards by state and economics of generation mix.
  • Create and edit GIS data and maintain spatial databases.
  • Provide GIS and cartographic support to Business Development, including the generation of production quality maps.
  • Perform high level analyses, including but not limited to industry market, markets, portfolio acquisitions, environmental and other constraints, zoning & permitting requirements, site optimizations, transmission capacity and energy pricing.
  • Prepare products and deliverables for regular presentation to decision-makers and decision-making bodies.
  • Research and evaluate public and private datasets to inform the siting of renewable energy projects.
  • Work with a software development team to assist in testing applications and tools that assist in automating workflows.
  • Hand projects over to Development Project Execution team, which will commence early-stage development and take to development complete.
  • Work directly with the Development Project Execution team to receive feedback on how to improve evaluation criteria and methodologies.
  • In addition to wind and wind/solar/storage hybrid projects, explore original opportunities where Steelhead could develop solar, hydrogen, and storage projects.



  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for all topics in the renewable energy space.
  • Knowledge of development, construction, transmission and wind energy project design.
  • Knowledge of the energy generation development business.
  • Experience in renewable energy development, project level evaluation, siting, regional transmission grids, real estate and land records, local and state permitting, environmental studies, economics.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organized, capable of accomplishing multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to work with limited supervision with minimal guidance.



  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Renewable Energy, Computer Science, Engineering, or other applicable area.
  • Minimum of 5 years of GIS work experience using GIS applications such as ArcGIS and related extensions, relational databases, with a broad knowledge of GIS capabilities and tools.
  • Solid skills with Esri ArcGIS desktop software, ArcGIS Online, ArcPro and Portal.
