LOCATION: REMOTE, Portland, Oregon, Or Chicago, Illinois depending on candidate preference 

General Purpose:

The Development Manager shall be responsible and accountable for execution of all activities associated with project development.  Includes management of greenfield, acquisition and co-development assets.

 Responsibilities:

  • Supervise acquisition of lease, easement and other land agreements via land agent or direct landowner contact
  • Establish and coordinate relationships with stakeholders, including elected officials, regulators, utilities, landowners and community leaders, to support project development
  • Participate in policy outreach efforts to government officials regarding wind industry issues
  • Monitor Generation Interconnection studies performed by transmission providers and third parties
  • Manager the environmental study and permitting process
  • Supervise contracting, progress and deliverables of third-party consultants.
  • Support the financial analysis and modeling of the project
  • Supervise project level expenditures and invoice processing
  • Develop project budgets and schedule highlighting key milestones
  • Work closely and negotiate with commercial counterparties, government entities and other stakeholders on projects/transactions
  • Negotiate and establish local agreements that address tax abatement, road use and decommissioning
  • Expected travel 30 – 50%
  • Present development plans of a regular basis and prepare co-development leadership for upcoming major decisions and mitigations
  • Inform and collaborate with co-development steering committee on a regular basis
  • Liaise with all internal stakeholders as required to gain sign off and approval at appropriate milestones
  • Supervise external consultants, including budget, deliverables and quality control; evaluate proposals from consultants and make recommendations on scopes of work and final selection
  • Maintain professional working relationships and communication with in-house business development, engineering, wind resource, construction, sales, service, legal and finance
  • Collaborate with engineering team and external consultants to evaluate site layouts and constraints, technology options, schedule implication, interconnection applications and studies
  • Update tracking tools for permitting, real estate, and interconnection in order to summarize and communicate status, schedule and associated risk of permitting, real estate, and interconnection deliverables
  • Regular updates to the co-development reporting process
  • Support
  • Prospect of investment opportunities to co-development team
  • Provide valuable support to the diligence process for acquisition opportunities, including evaluating developer capabilities and project level risks

 

Essential Functions:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite computer skills (Windows, Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and SAP)
  • Ability to complete weekly reports

Education, Training, and Skills Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Sales or Marketing. MBA or graduate degree preferred
  • 3 years minimum of work experience in project development, real estate, permitting, regulatory policy or project finance in the U.S. energy/power sector, for example in wind energy development
  • Has experience in and understanding of the North American power sector, including legal / regulatory aspects, market environment, stakeholders, counterparties, and other areas that impact growth initiatives.
  • Has knowledge and capabilities in all the aspects of project development, including power sales, commercial markets, pre-construction, permitting, transmission, project financing, contracts, land acquisition, and financial analysis.
  • Working knowledge of development, project finance, permitting and interconnection processes
  • Experience of project greenfield evaluation and feasibility analysis.
  • Understands financial models, risks, rewards, and what motivates value for portfolio projects, greenfield and acquisition opportunities.
  • Has participated in the development, negotiation, and execution of project agreements.
  • Guiding projects through financial close.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and interface effectively with cross-functional employee groups and external stakeholders
  • Can be an effective spokesperson and public representative for Steelhead and Vestas Americas.
  • Comfortable balancing responsibilities and prioritizing diverse demands in a forward-thinking work environment
  • Motivated and creative problem-solver who is excited to assess, solve, communicate and implement strategic solutions to complex, multifaceted opportunities
  • Has a high attention to detail
  • Experience of project structuring including tax and accounting requirements.
  • Capable of making sound strategic and operational decisions through evaluating data, focusing on customers and commercial awareness.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work overtime as needed
  • Impact- Skilled negotiating and problem-solving skills with emphasis on attention to detail. Supervisory authority or budgetary accountability
  • Communication- High-quality English communications skills (verbal, active listening, written, meeting – with team, stakeholders, all levels, etc.)
