Assistant Project Manager, Construction

Sales / SBU AME / Project Management
The Assistant Project Manager, Construction assists in the management and commercial achievement of wind turbine projects. Assist with all project execution activities from the time contracts are secured to full operation of the project site and handover to service. Work closely with the project manager, contracts, logistics, engineering, construction site management, and other support functions during project execution

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Managers in Initiating, planning, completing controls, and closing all activities associated with project execution
  • Contribute to HSE efforts for an injury and incident-free safety culture at the project site
  • Assist in identifying all scope elements and is accountable for their timely delivery
  • Assist Project Managers in project execution within budget; identifies and exploits opportunities for cost savings
  • Represent Vestas' values and advocates high standards in performance and integrity
  • Track customer deliverables and is responsible for ensuring information is timely and accurate
  • Coordinate contractors and vendors
  • Willingness to embrace and promote Vestas' commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

 

Qualification

  • Preference for Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering or related field
  • Minimum 2 years wind industry or utility experience preferred
  • Familiarity with power generation language and key terminology
  • Proven performance in working in teams and achieving results
  • Proven ability to set and organize budgets and resources
  • Professional commercial insight and understanding of financial impacts of decisions with respect to project budgets
  • Ability to learn; self-motivated
  • Ability to build effective customer relationships and effectively negotiate with customers to resolve disputes and promote win-win solutions
  • Experience in working effectively with workgroups across a global organization
  • Effective change and conflict management. Proven decision-making skills with balanced risk-taking
  • Functions effectively in environments of rapid change and conflicting demands and are capable of multi-tasking
  • Professional English communications skills (verbal, engaged listening, written, meeting management, presentation)
  • Professional PC computer skills (MS Office) mandatory, MS Office – Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Primavera Project Management preferred. SAP knowledge is a preference; ProCore or other construction-related software preferred.

 

Competencies

  • Professional English communications skills (verbal, engaged listening, written, meeting management, presentation)
  • Professional PC computer skills (MS Office) mandatory, MS Office – Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Primavera Project Management preferred. SAP knowledge highly preferred
  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, climb stairs, hearing ability to use close-range radios, visual acuity including depth perception, field of vision and the ability to distinguish between colors, ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed, as well as hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Ability to climb ladders to heights of 60 to 100 meters
  • Valid driver’s license, passport, and ability to travel as needed to meet business goals
  • Regular and reliable attendance

Additional Information
This position is located in Portland, Oregon, and requires 25% - 50% travel within North America.
