Vestas are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Specialist Skills Technician to join or service team at our Golden Plains Wind Farm. This is an excellent opportunity for a person with strong HV experience to take ownership of a role and build reliable relationships with our site staff and regular sub contractor teams.

 

The job entails operating High voltage equipment, Maintenance of HV equipment and its associated auxiliaries and Supervision of subcontractors. The job implies a close cooperation with Construction and Service and participation during the installation, commissioning, testing and handover of newly installed Electrical Balance of Plant systems (EBoP). The HV Specialist technician may also be engaged in the operation and maintenance of Wind Turbines equipment, Solar and Storage Battery systems for Vestas.

 

Responsibilities

Safety

  • Ensuring that each task is undertaken in a manner that ensures the safety of personnel, protects the environment and work methods are followed at all times;
  • Comply with the duty of care assigned under OH&S legislation and demonstrate commitment to accident prevention;
  • Undertake Site Induction, Wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE);
  • Report all incidents, accidents or near misses;
  • Observe all work instructions, procedures, safety codes of practice, employer OH&S and Environmental requirements and statutory rules and regulations;
  • Ensure teams adhere to Vestas HV Safety rules

Operational

  • Travel to sites and undertake HV scheduled service, inspections and reactive maintenance on as required basis;
  • Provide remote operational and technical support to site based HV operators
  • Respond and attend site outside normal working hours to undertake unscheduled maintenance on a as required basis;
  • Plan and execute substation shutdowns, coordinate (including liaising with internal teams), supervise third parties and generate reports.
  • Undertake operations and maintenance within the limits of training and authorisation including operation of HV and LV equipment
  • Provide safe access to HV equipment, including oversight of switching instructions and access documents.

All other duties within their competence, skill, qualifications and experience as directed;

 

Customers
Maintain good relationship to internal and external customers;

  • Understand the external customers' requirements;
  • Provide prompt onsite feedback to customer;
  • Liaise with Power utilities on operational matters

 

Staff
Individual performance;

  • Participating in safety, toolbox or other meetings where required;
  • Coordinate, supervise working parties
  • Provide oversight on HV training of operators

 

Qualifications

  • Electrical trade, Grade A or equivalent- essential
  • HV Operator - essential
  • Solar installation and maintenance - not essential
  • Storage battery system installation and maintenance - not essential

 

Competencies

  • Safety Focus - Proactively reduce risks and irregularities to ensure the safety of yourself and others. Contribute responsibly to living up to relevant laws, regulations, and corporate obligations in terms of safety, health and environment.
  • Advance knowledge of providing safe access to HV equipment, including writing switching instructions and electrical access authorities.
  • Technical knowledge - Advanced knowledge of HV equipment (Substation & Reticulation), operation, control (including SCADA), protection relays interrogation and maintenance practices
  • Knowledge of wind turbine, solar or storage battery systems components and controls, including knowledge of processes and systems for the installation, commissioning and maintenance.
  • Problem solving - Ability to identify and define source of problems through a logical process and identify and evaluate possible solutions based on facts and sound judgment that mitigate the problem whilst ensuring delivery of required outcomes.
  • Systematic - Characterized by order and planning. Conducting work based on logical, consistent, and ordered methods
  • Supervision of subcontractor and coordination of site based technicians on HV tasks
  • Report writing skills, including MS Project and Presentations
