Vestas Technology & Operations> Manufacturing> IoW Blades
Located in Newport on the Isle of Wight, Vestas operates one of the UK's top onshore wind blade manufacturing facilities. The department produces high-quality composite blades and combines advanced engineering, safety-driven processes, and a highly collaborative culture focused on advancing sustainable energy worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Promote and support an effective safety culture within the production area, ensuring compliance with all safety standards and procedures.
- Monitor adherence to the takt plan, identify improvement opportunities, and implement standardized work practices to improve operational performance.
- Ensure accurate execution and data integrity within MES and ERP systems, maintaining reliable shop-floor reporting and traceability.
- Conduct root-cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives using methodologies such as 5-Why, 8D, and Kaizen, ensuring corrective actions are effectively implemented and sustained.
- Organize and perform layered audits on the shop floor, coaching Group Leads and operators to ensure compliance with standard work and daily management routines.
- Support the Production Supervisor in operational and people-related activities, including problem-solving forums, disciplinary processes, capability reviews, absence management, and annual People & Culture initiatives.
- Provide leadership coverage during periods of Production Manager and Supervisors absence, ensuring continuity of operations and team performance.
Qualifications
- Technical degree, vocational qualification, or engineering degree.
- Verified training in supervision and people leadership.
- Lean six sigma green belt
- HSE mandatory training.
- Core production Tools, SAP, MES, Takt plan.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in a manufacturing environment.
Competencies
- Changeover execution, ability to plan and run efficient changeovers with minimal losses and quality risks.
- Safety leadership, ability to enforce safe work, permits and 5s, and act on incidents.
- CMMS discipline: Ability to plan, execute, and document maintenance activities with a high level of data accuracy and system discipline.
- Contractor management: Ability to manage contractors, including scope, safety, quality, cost, and performance reviews.
- Downtime problem solving: Ability to perform root-cause analysis and Kaizen activities on recurring issues and verify the effectiveness of corrective actions.
- Root Cause analysis, ability to perform 5-why/8D and close CAPAs with verified experience.
- Leadership competencies: Delivers results, builds effective teams, and instills trust through accountability, collaboration, and integrity.
