Deputy Pre-Installation Project Manager, Offshore Wind

 

The Deputy Pre-Installation Project Manager, Offshore Wind is responsible for supporting the Pre-Installation Project Manager in the handling and pre-assembly of offshore wind turbine components from the time of delivery to the pre-installation location until load-out to the feeder barge in preparation for offshore installation, for designated Vestas offshore wind projects in North America.

 

The Deputy Pre-Installation Project Manager will work closely with and support the Pre-Installation Project Manager to ensure that the pre-installation project scope is delivered on time, on budget and to the required safety and quality standards, in cooperation with the project team.

 

The successful candidate's work location could vary over the course of the life cycle of the project. During project execution, the candidate will be working in South Brooklyn, New York. Travel to other offshore sites for training and onboarding for periods at a time will be required.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Support the planning and management of all pre-installation activities of the main offshore WTG components including barge loadouts, heavy lifting, assembly of tower sections and nacelles, component handling and preservation, operation method reviews, mechanical and electrical completion works, installation and termination of cables inside the towers, and preparation of offshore wind components for load-out to the feeder barge, in coordination with and under the direction of the Pre-Installation Project Manager.
  • Support the Pre-Installation Project Manager in the management of the pre-installation team, including management of subcontractors
  • Monitor operations performed by subcontractors on WTG components during Storage, Preservation, Pre-installation and Loadout.
  • Engage the pre-installation team in continuous improvement
  • Ensure close communication and alignment with the Pre-Installation Project Manager, Senior Project Manager and the rest of the project team
  • Act on behalf of the Pre-Installation Project Manager during internal and external meetings when the Pre-Installation Project Manager is not in attendance, and when requested.
  • Ensure pre-installation activities completed in time to meet internal targets and key loadout dates
  • Ensure effective HSE and Quality management within the pre-installation site
  • Monitor project progress, budget and performance
  • Ensure compliance to the contract within the Pre-installation scope
  • Finalize and comply with the Pre-installation Method Statement
  • Proactively resolve internal issues to ensure the project is not affected
  • Notify of incidents and accidents according to HSE procedures

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years construction management experience, e.g. in a related energy, industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • Technical background, electrical, mechanical, or rotating heavy equipment; knowledge of technical drawings and schematics preferred. Ability to understand and utilize technical language.
  • Valid driver's license, passport, and ability to travel as needed to meet business outcomes
  • Skilled familiarity with power generation language and key terminology
  • Knowledge & understanding of heavy lifting activities and associated EHS requirements
  • Experience managing Mechanical & Electrical activities
  • Familiar with OSHA and standard site safety regulations , or equivalent global HSE regulations
  • Preferred: Direct wind industry or offshore energy experience
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering, construction or project management or equivalent
  • Preferred: Experience supervising a team of employees to safely carry out work on complex construction projects
  • Preferred: Experience working with labor union workforce
  • Preferred: Experience with subcontractor management
  • Preferred: Experience working with large budgets and resources
  • Professional, commercial and contractual understanding and understanding of financial impacts of decisions with respect to project budgets
  • Ability to build and maintain professional customer relationships and effectively negotiate with customers to resolve disputes and promote win-win solutions
  • Effective change and conflict management.
  • Proven decision-making skills with balanced risk taking
  • Function effectively in a time-sensitive setting in environments
  • Experience in working effectively with work groups across a global organization
  • Professional English communications skills (verbal, active listening, written, meeting management, presentation)
  • Excellent PC computer skills, MS Office - Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Preferred: Primavera Project Management and SAP knowledge

 

Competencies:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite computer skills (Windows, Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook), internet research and SAP
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to possess a driver's license
  • Ability to travel to various construction sites
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs.
  • Regular and reliable attendance

Salary range is $125K-$175K.  Salary compensation will be based on experience.
