The Power Plant Solutions teams in Vestas Australia have yet again come up with an amazing opportunity for another challenging role. This role is quite versatile in its ways.
The grid function primarily supports Sales and Construction on grid connection and balance of plant aspects of all projects in APAC. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of grid connections, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations, and driving consistency in the portfolio of projects in the sales phase. Functionally leading a team of engineering professionals across the region working closely with other cross-functional teams delivering competitive and compliant grid solutions. The role will encompass technical and contract management throughout the sales/connection phase, managing the grid compliance and balance of plant processes on multiple projects.

Some of the major responsibilities of this role are as below:
Responsibilities:
• Accountability for the grid compliance aspects of wind and hybrid power plants and grid solutions offered to meet the generator performance standards, model guidelines, and application submission review checklist requirements
• Liaise with the Vestas Technology team, Consultants, SCADA/PPE Engineering, WTG Engineering, Operations & Electrical team to formulate propose & negotiate a generator performance standard towards clients, TSO, and Market operators (AEMO etc).
• Review tender specifications, assess variations & requests for information (RFIs) and payment claims. Find and list the EPC deliverables as per the grid schedule in the contract, and prepare and align the delivery plan by consulting with internal/external stakeholders.
• Managing and improving the current technical, task, information and tool processes available within the balance of plant arena for the Asia Pacific business and promoting such improvements globally within Vestas.
• Lead the team in contract negotiations on sales (as required) and construction projects on grid compliance and electrical matters to ensure a balanced technically compliant solution is offered through technical, commercial and/or contractual avenues.
• Take ownership of associated technical annexures of contracts and work with the Legal team to ensure their accuracy and suitability to meet the contractual obligation
• Provide a more holistic and company perspective view on commercial impacts relating to technical decision-making processes.
Qualifications:
• 10+ years’ experience in the electrical and/or energy industry in a technical capacity including technical or people management.
• Master or Doctorate Degree in Electrical Power Engineering (or equivalent)
• Registered or Certified Professional Engineer (RPEng or CPEng) preferred.
• Experience in wind and/or other renewable industries is preferred.
• Experience in the electricity generation sector.
Competencies:
• Must have experience in managing teams within the grid connection and/or electrical power industry. Must have experience in contract negotiations and deal closure, ideally in the power plant industry.
• Electrical power engineering knowledge as well as project engineering knowledge.
• Extensive background in grid connection and electrical compliance, preferably in the renewable energy sector.
• Extensive understanding of commercial and contractual aspects of technical solutions.
• Ability to understand customer drivers and complement it with appropriate technical solutions.
• Negotiation abilities and strong contract acumen are essential.
• Good understanding of project financial drivers.
• Ability to think strategically and optimise customer and company value.
• Highly developed communication skills, both verbal and written in English.
• Proven experience in mentoring other technical staff on technical matters and solution creation.
• Strong time-management skills and ability to work across multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to work within and lead an international cross-functional team.
