The Grid team oversees all aspects of the grid during the sales, construction, and service phases of projects throughout the Asia Pacific, with a focus on Australia and New Zealand.
You will collaborate with a team of engineering experts across the region, working closely with various cross-functional teams to deliver competitive and compliant grid solutions.
This role includes technical and resource management during the sales, construction and service phases, overseeing grid connection approval, grid compliance, and managing the balance of plant processes for multiple projects.
Responsibilities:
• Lead the technical review and approval of connection studies, compliance reports, and modelling submissions, ensuring alignment with the National Electricity Rules (NER), AEMO requirements, and project obligations.
• Provide subject-matter expertise in power system analysis, generator performance standards (GPS), and compliance evidence across sales, construction, and operational phases.
• Coordinate cross-functionally with grid modelling teams, project managers, contract managers, sales, and other stakeholders to secure timely delivery of grid connection milestones.
• Oversee and validate deliverables from consultants, subcontractors, and OEMs, ensuring they meet Vestas' quality standards, compliance requirements, and industry best practices.
• Prepare site-specific functional design specifications for the park-level controller and wind turbine generators based on the computer models, and the agreed generator performance standards
• Manage the GPS approval process including NER Clause 5.3.4A (R0) submissions, generator registration (R1), and compliance testing/model validation reporting (R2) with AEMO and TNSPs.
• Develop and maintain grid compliance test plans and schedules, aligned with project milestones, plant performance, and regulatory obligations.
• Engage with AEMO, TNSPs, and customers on compliance clarifications, technical queries, and GPS negotiations, ensuring alignment between regulatory requirements and project outcomes.
• Support commissioning and compliance testing activities, resolving technical issues efficiently to ensure smooth project handover and grid compliance certification.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior grid engineers, building capability in connection studies, compliance processes, and stakeholder engagement.
• Prepare and improve technical SOP documents and building tools for internal collaboration.
• Prepare and deliver technical presentations and reports to internal stakeholders, customers, and regulatory bodies, articulating complex technical outcomes in a clear and professional manner.
• Prepare project costing and review tender specifications, Assess Variations, Requests for Information (RFIs) and payment claims
Qualifications:
• Degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems.
• Minimum 3 years' experience in grid connection, power system studies, compliance testing, and advisory roles.
• Strong knowledge of NER requirements, AEMO processes (R0-R2), and generator performance standards.
• Demonstrated capability in reviewing complex grid connection studies and compliance evidence.
• Experience engaging with AEMO, NSPs, and external consultants on performance standards and compliance negotiations.
Essential:
• In-depth understanding of power system analysis and connection study methodologies.
• Strong capability in reviewing and assessing compliance against grid codes and NER rules.
• Ability to influence and negotiate with major stakeholders (AEMO, TNSPs, customers, consultants).
• Excellent written and verbal communication for preparing formal responses and presentations.
Desirable:
• Hands-on modelling skills in PSS(R)E, PSCAD, and PowerFactory.
• Experience in renewable generation modelling and Hold Point compliance testing.
• Familiarity with advanced simulation workflows for weak grid and EMT studies for IBRs.
