The role is accountable for improving safety outcomes across all activities in the region, including construction, service operations, warehousing, office locations, and contractor-managed activities. The Head of HSE partners closely with the Regional President, Head of P&C and regional leadership team to ensure HSE is embedded in decision-making, operational execution, workforce planning, contractor management, and business performance.

The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) function for MED is responsible for deploying the regional HSE strategy and building a culture where safety is a business priority and a key enabler of operational performance.

Supporting all activities across the region, including construction, service operations, warehousing, office locations, and contractor managed activities, the function is focused on continuously improving safety outcomes and ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental performance.

Working closely with the Regional President, Head of P&C, and the Regional Leadership Team, the HSE function helps integrate safety into decision making, daily operations, workforce planning, contractor oversight, and overall business results, supporting a safe, sustainable, and effective organisation.

 

Responsibilities

  • Guide the regional HSE agenda by prioritizing the reduction of serious injuries and fatalities, stopping repeat incidents, building field leadership, and maintaining regulatory compliance in support of sustainable business growth.
  • Act as both a strategic advisor and operational leader, driving accountability for safety and building HSE capability across the organisation.
  • Develop and execute the regional HSE strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities and regional business objectives.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the Regional President, Head of P&C, and Regional Leadership Team on all HSE-related matters.
  • Translate global HSE priorities into practical, effective regional initiatives that deliver measurable business impact.
  • Advance continuous improvement in HSE performance through data-driven insights, targeted interventions, and disciplined execution.
  • Ensure HSE considerations are fully integrated into business planning, operational reviews, workforce management, and strategic decision-making processes.
  • Encourage a proactive safety culture by building engagement, ownership, and accountability at every level of the organization.
  • Monitor and evaluate HSE performance, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities to improve safety outcomes across the region.

 

Qualifications

  • Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, Business, or a related discipline
  • Relevant professional HSE qualifications and certifications

 

Competencies

  • Significant senior leadership experience in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) within industrial, manufacturing, energy, infrastructure, construction, utilities, or other high-risk industries.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large, geographically dispersed teams across multiple locations and operational environments.
  • Experience delivering measurable and sustainable improvements in safety performance.
  • Extensive experience managing contractor, subcontractor, and outsourced workforce safety programmes.
  • Skilled at collaborating with executive leaders, supporting strategic decision-making, and advancing organizational change.
  • Effective stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to build credibility and engagement at all levels of the organization.
