In Vestas Power Solutions, in the Tower module, there's a team of engineers responsible for developing solutions for transport, construction and maintenance (TCM) of the towers.

The department seeks a highly qualified mechanical engineer responsible for contributing to the development of tools and processes for transportation by road, sea and rail from the factory to the site, construction on site and maintenance while in operation of the towers. The Tower TCM team within the Tower module is responsible for designing the interfaces (i.e. the tools) between the towers of the wind turbine and trucks, trains and ships (transport), and cranes (construction). Also, any tool required for maintenance while in operation. Finally, it is also responsible to designing the processes that will use said tools.

Our focus is to develop these tools and processes in order to make the transport, construction and maintenance of the wind turbine's tower more efficient, reducing their cost, and always with safety of people and property in mind.

The Tower TCM team consists of 20+ highly skilled and motivated engineers located in Porto, Portugal and in Chennai, India and is looking to grow. The people in both sites work in close collaboration thus making it a global team.

Responsibilities

• Interface with internal and external stakeholders to support project delivery within the agreed timelines and cost

• Develop the tools' concept in order to safely transport, construct and maintain the wind turbine's towers

• Design the tools (3D and 2D)

• Assess the tools' structural integrity in accordance with international standards either by analytical or finite element methods

• Create HSE risk assessments

• Create FMEA related to processes and tools

• Create documentation related to design and for suppliers

• Oversee the prototype testing of your designs in partnership with the field technicians

 

Qualifications

• Mechanical, Structural, or Civil Engineering degree (BSc, BEng, MSc, MEng)

• 1 to 3 years of experience as a structural/mechanical design engineer in machinery or steel structures

 

Competencies

• Good knowledge of structural mechanics

• Good knowledge of materials and their specification, especially steel

• Good knowledge of manufacturing processes

• Experience in 3D modelling and 2D drafting, preferably using Creo

• Experience in FEM, preferably using ANSYS (Workbench)

• Experience using Eurocode is a plus

• Experience with transport or construction operations is a plus

• Experience in the wind industry is a plus 

• Good communication skills in English both verbal and written
