The Research & Development (R&D) business unit leads the technology development of our wind turbine products. We are responsible for its development, verification and industrialisation. It is here that we lay the technological foundation for sustaining our market position within sustainable energy.

The Generator submodule consists of highly skilled employees, situated at our main locations in Denmark, Germany, and Portugal. The department is accountable for the generator, converting the mechanical energy from the wind turbine rotor and drivetrain into raw electrical power. In the Generator submodule, we build our designs on a long tradition of both in-house and externally supplied generator products, of both induction & synchronous types. We focus on providing solutions with predictable performance, reliability, and cost to the market.
Within this exciting and challenging environment, we have an opening for a generator engineer to join and help form our mechanical/structural team.

 

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the development of solutions for the generator product, following Vestas's project framework and Stage/Gate models. Your responsibilities will be structural design, analysis and validation of the load-carrying elements of our generator designs. You will work with advanced tools such as ANSYS Mechanical, Windchill and Jira. All these activities, in collaboration with technical experts and project managers.

Main activities under this responsibility will include:

  • Product development, from requirements and early concept to detailed design and verification
  • Product maintenance, incl. implementation of improvements and/or cost-out opportunities
  • Engineering Change Management
  • Risk assessment
  • Stakeholder management, involving external suppliers globally
  • Planning of own work in Jira

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical or structural engineering
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in product development and structural engineering
  • Experience in design of steel structures, incl. base materials, castings, weldments and bolted connections
  • Proficient in structural assessment using FEA (preferably ANSYS). This includes static/stationary and dynamic analysis, extreme- and fatigue analysis, and modal analysis
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Knowledge of Six-Sigma tools, e.g., DFMEA

Additional information

This is a hybrid position based in Porto, Portugal and requires up to 20 days of travel per year.
