Power Solutions > Aerodynamic & Mechanical > Tower Structure 
Tower Engineering in Vestas Power Solutions is maintaining and developing the complete Vestas tower program. The tasks range from structural engineering over highly specialized FEM calculations, requirements specifications, DFMEA, test planning and execution to risk assessments and compilation of certification documentation. Focus is on securing sound, cost-optimized and production friendly solutions and at the same time fulfilling the overall requirements to safety and functionality for the products. Additionally, process efficiency and coordinate time reduction is of key importance in order to fulfill Vestas's overall aspirations of delivering products, which are configured to customer needs in a timely manner. The team is located at 3 sites at present Denmark, India and Portugal. The team consists of 20+ highly skilled design engineers with background in mechanical/Civil engineering.

 

Responsibilities
As a Structural & FEA Lead Engineer in Tower Structures your primary responsibility will be:

  • Delivery of platform projects of standard towers for the upcoming product range
  • Perform FEA simulations and assist in development/optimization of designs methods and processes.
  • Deliver the technical solution within quality, time and cost targets of the project
  • Lead younger FEA engineers, ensuring that deliverables are timely, and with high quality 
  • Support project scope definition and resources planning in collaboration with the Tech Leads and Project Managers
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks within the project scope
  • Perform Design reviews
  • Secure technical choices to get the needed progress in the projects
  • Coordinate and align project situations with stakeholders
  • Provide feedback and challenge design solutions to interfacing systems to optimize final product design

 

Qualifications
We see the ideal candidate possessing the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor or Master's degree in Structural, Mechanical, Aerospace or similar fields
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in structural analysis
  • Structural analysis using FEA tools
  • Structural verification of bolt connections
  • Structural verification of welded connection
  • Tools: Ansys Mechanical, Ansys Parametric Design Language (APDL) & Ansys SpaceClaim
  • Experience with design of towers for wind turbines or other mast/chimney structures is an added value
  • Technical leadership & Project management skills (technical project management)

 

Competencies 
We see the ideal candidate possessing the following competencies and personality:  

  • Ansys work bench and Global modelling experience with Pre and post calculation
  • FEA scripting optimization
  • Python and Matlab knowledge is considered is an added value 
  • Structural/Mechanical engineering and design, within the Eurocodes, IEC and DiBt
  • Hands on experience Friction join and bolt verification tools and hand calculation
  • Deep knowledge of buckling, fatigue, welded and bolted connections
  • Experience in enthusiastically loaded structures design
  • Knowledge of system engineering tools like DFMEA, HSE assessments documentation
  • Accountability, with focus on the deliveries (time, cost, scope, quality)
  • Technical leadership, with capacity of improving projects freely and support a young designer team
  • Experienced in completing large projects within and product development environment
  • Good communication skills in English, written and spoken
