Can you shape a brighter future?

Vestas Technology & Operations > Research & Development (R&D) > Control Units & Electronics

If you are motivated by sustaining and evolving long-lifecycle electronics solutions, then you may be the candidate we are looking for.

The Control Units & Electronics team develops and sustains control hardware and low‑voltage electronics (including VHDL and firmware) used across Vestas’ wind turbine portfolio. Our products are safety‑critical and designed for long lifecycles, requiring active sustainment and obsolescence management over 40–50 years. You will work in a collaborative setup across Denmark and Portugal, closely interacting with sourcing, EMS partners, manufacturing, and product development to ensure continued production, quality, and reliability of legacy and current platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Manage electronics obsolescence for legacy control units and electronic modules, ensuring long-term producibility and compliance
  • Manage and coordinate obsolescence work packages, including planning, technical direction, and follow-up across multiple contributors
  • Ensure quality, progress, and timely decision-making in obsolescence mitigation and redesign efforts
  • Regularly monitor component lifecycles, BOMs, PCNs, and supplier notifications to identify and mitigate risks early
  • Assess, qualify, and validate alternative and second source components in collaboration with development, sourcing, and EMS partners
  • Support and coordinate redesign activities where obsolete components require circuit or layout changes
  • Act as technical focal point for legacy electronics topics, supporting both production and development teams
  • Collaborate closely with EMS partners to keep production running despite component shortages, allocations, or discontinuations
  • Maintain component data, BOMs, and engineering changes according to change management processes

Qualifications

  • BSc or MSc in Electronics/HW Engineering or similar
  • 3+ years of experience working with Electronics development or a similar role
  • Knowledge of lifecycle management, redesign due to obsolescence, and validation of alternative components
  • Familiarity with change management systems, BOM maintenance, and engineering documentation
  • Solid understanding of analogue and digital electronics, discrete components, microprocessors, FPGAs, memory, and power supplies
  • Experience coordinating technical work across multiple contributors and disciplines, including defining tasks, providing technical direction, and ensuring progress
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)

Competencies

  • Structured and analytical approach with well-developed problem-solving skills
  • Direct and clear communication style, able to identify risks and make decisions with minimal supervision
  • Effective stakeholder management across technical and non-technical interfaces
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with limited supervision
  • Results-oriented mindset with a focus on accountability
  • Effective communicator across cultures

What We Offer

You will join an experienced and collaborative electronics organization working with products that have long lifecycles and high reliability requirements. The role offers significant technical responsibility, broad stakeholder interaction, and opportunities for professional growth.
