Working together with the other Power Solutions in Denmark, Germany and UK, Chennai and Porto Engineering Centres focus on the research and development and engineering support spanning all of Vestas' product portfolio. With a broad engineering capability spanning all engineering disciplines, such as electrical, mechanical, controls, software, data analytics, these centres strengthen the global R&D setup, within a creative and engaging environment. With the right competences and tools and through lean and efficient processes, we create design solutions for all Vestas product portfolio, aiming to reduce complexity and facilitate efficiency improvements

 

Responsibilities

We have an immediate opening for a position in the Powertrain Department in Porto, Portugal specializing in the analysis of Powertrain System behavior and loads with focus on numerical methods e.g. Finite Elements and alike.

Activities will involve all facets of product development, but with priorities centered on project and work package execution in close collaboration with with teams in Germany, Denmark and Portugal.Many of the activities also require involvement of external partners such as research institutes or suppliers, and this aspect requires a combination of proven technical competences, good communication skills and a commercial mindset, and not least with a distinct ability for delivering technical and specific activities forward.

You will become part of a cross-functional engineering team responsible for delivery of work packages and technical solutions to the entire Powertrain area.

You will work in our development and research projects and contribute to make sure that the Powertrain system and its components meet our expectations. You will be responsible for planning, executing, evaluating and finally reporting your analysis results as input to the design and verification activities of our wind turbine product platforms within On- and Offshore projects.

Main activities under this responsibility will include:

  • Define and specify the analysis according to the needs of the projects
  • Build the models and develop the analysis according to the specification
  • Post-process and evaluate the analysis data with regards to the intended information
  • Summarize the findings in a report and communicate them to the relevant stakeholders
  • Work closely with stakeholders to identify issues and use data to propose solutions for effective decision making
  • Continuously validate and update the models based on test rig and field measurements
  • Participate in de-risking activities (e.g. D-FMEA's)
  • Support in defining set-ups and procedures for physical testing on test benches and turbines
  • Contribute to root cause analysis 
  • Develop and improve methods, tools and processes

 

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computational Engineering, or similar
  • Background in support technology of rotating machinery (gears, bearings, etc) from Wind Turbines, Aerospace or Heavy Industries
  • Profound knowledge and min. 5 years experience in simulation and analysis of Mechanical Systems
  • Good understanding of product development processes
  • Technical project management skills
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken)
  • Ability to work in a complex and diverse environment
