You will be part of a key area within Vestas Power Solutions by joining our Power System Integration department. In Power System Integration we focus on product development as our main goal to secure grid compliance of Vestas power plants. We are a global organization in very close interaction with the market and that is involved in various innovation and technology activities with our external partners. 

The core products within Power System Integration include the electrical infrastructure design of Vestas power plants; the development of Vestas power plant controllers; electrical simulation models; design of advanced products and solutions for grid integration of Vestas plants. We build on the department core competencies within Power Systems, Controls, and Software Engineering.

Power Plant Integration and Analysis is a team within Power System Integration enthusiastic about product design and plant solutions to support Vestas' grid compliance, leveraging our grid analysis capabilities to undertake emerging grid phenomena and other grid integration opportunities.

Responsibilities

As a Power System Lead Engineer in Power Plant Integration and Analysis, you will be part of a global team that deals with a variety of modern power system phenomena and grid integration opportunities. You will be engaged to support Vestas in maintaining its position as an established name in grid integration. You will play a growing role in optimizing our power plant products and solutions, targeting best-in-class energy yields and improved grid support capabilities. You will have a hands-on opportunity for combining power system engineering together with applied optimization disciplines. Your main responsibilities and tasks will include:

  • Improve power plant design and electrical performance in regards to grid integration capabilities by applying different optimization techniques (e.g. multi-criteria, non-linear, artificial intelligence, ...)
  • Conduct a variety of power system simulation analysis, from steady-state to dynamic simulations, in order to optimize the electrical performance and costs of Vestas' products (e.g. plant dispatch optimization, energy management (EMS) optimization, Q dynamic reserve)
  • Bring a stronger investigative and data-driven perspective into the development of our power plant products and solutions. Build on existing data to generate value by developing further optimized grid support capabilities 
  • Participate in cross-functional teams, involving several engineering disciplines, developing energy management solutions for application into Vestas hybrid power plants

 

Qualifications

  • BSc, MSc, or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or similar (alternatively, you may also have a degree within optimization fields and proven application to the power system domain)
  • Professional experience with application of optimization techniques into product development 
  • Solid knowledge within the power system area and simulation tools like PSCAD, PSS/E, DigSilent PowerFactory
  • Good programming and scripting skills (C, C++, Fortran, Python, ...)
  • A toolset of optimization techniques (GAMS, Gurobi, COIN-OT ), data analytics, and related software
