Do you want to make a change for the better in the world?

Power Solutions > Applications, Controls & Electrical > Electrical Models

If you feel inspired by building digital representations of complex technologies and find motivation in both people- and technical leadership in a complex business environment. Then you may be the candidate we are looking for.

The Electrical Simulation Models (ESM ) department is part of the Power System Integration (PSI) module within the R&D organization. The team is global, spreading across two different locations - Portugal and Denmark.

The energy transition from fossil fueled power plants to renewables poses significant and increasing issues to the electrical power system in several countries. The PSI module is end-to-end accountable to solve these tasks and achieve grid connection for our clients. We do the conceptual electrical design between the power grid and the individual turbines, which includes modelling, control, and integration of Wind turbines with various third-party components. Accurate digital representation of hybrid power plants is a core product and differentiator for Vestas and is done by the ESM department.

The ESM department has power system engineers with electrical, control and SW engineering background. We design models in several power system simulation tools (DIgSILENT, PSS(R)E, PSCAD, TSAT, etc.) as a digital twin for internal product variances of Wind Turbines and Power Plant Controllers. Furthermore, we qualify models from third party vendors of innovative components like Statcoms, Inverters for Solar, Batteries, Electrolyzes etc. These models are used worldwide by Vestas, Transmission Systems Operators and others in the entire project lifecycle through Development, Sales, Commissioning and Operations.

Responsibilities

You will report to the VP of PSI and be responsible for both people leadership and to some extent the technical domain, which is however shared with a technical delegation structure. This will reach from specifications and design towards support and optimization of a global value chain. More specifically, your responsibilities will cover:

  • Ensure market leading digital representation of all electrical components in Vestas's offerings
  • People management (one-to-one dialogues, development plans, target settings, etc.)
  • Recruit world class specialists and ensure the right usage of engineering-contractors in the area
  • Understand and fulfill the needs of internal users and stakeholders
  • Prioritize between long term R&D project activities, medium term development activities and short-term operational support
  • Support and sign off on technical Strategies, Roadmaps and Designs
  • Department budgeting and resource allocations
  • Follow up on project progress to deliver high quality with respect to time and cost
  • Implement optimizations in processes and tools to reduce time and increase quality

Qualifications

  • You probably have a Bachelor or Master degree within Electrical- or Power System engineering
  • Minimum 10 years professional experience
  • Minimum 5 years leadership experience, probably supported by some leadership education
  • Good cultural understanding and international working experience
  • You have the desire and the ability to understand and maintain overview of a wide range of advanced technical domains using your services
  • Good communication skills in English

Competencies

  • You can coordinate across borders and cultures and have good cooperative skills suitable for a global organization with personal, professional, and cultural diversity
  • Customer-oriented, open-minded and able to understand a global value chain with multiple targets and stakeholders
  • Build trust and influence your employees and stakeholders by your behavior
  • You have a high level of motivation and result orientation and can balance your work between short term / urgent and longer term / not urgent while maintaining flow

What we offer

We offer you a job with full life cycle responsibility for core tools and work processes, which enables efficient execution of business-critical functions.

You will be able to build a large network across a large and truly global organization with significant opportunities for cross disciplinary and personal development. The work environment is result-oriented, at a high professional level and with a solid technical commitment.
