At Vestas, we are accelerating the transition towards sustainable energy through digital innovation. As part of Digital Solutions, the Compute & Cloud Platforms (CCP) team provides the foundational platforms enabling engineering, simulation, AI, and digital product development at scale.
We are now looking for a DevOps Engineer specialized in HPC platforms to help evolve and operate our hybrid compute landscape spanning on-prem HPC clusters and Azure-based scalable compute environments.
Responsibilities
As a DevOps Engineer in the HPC team, you will:
- Develop and operate HPC platform capabilities
- Work with Linux-based and Windows HPC clusters, schedulers, and storage systems
- Support hybrid workloads across on-prem data centers and cloud (Azure)
- Build platform automation and Infrastructure-as-Code
- Implement automation using tools such as Terraform, or similar
- Standardize provisioning, configuration, and scaling of HPC environments
- Enable scalable compute for engineering and AI workloads
- Support simulation, Agentic workloads and AI/ML workloads requiring high compute capacity
- Optimize performance, cost, and reliability of compute workloads
- Contribute to platform architecture and evolution
- Design and improve HPC and compute platform architecture
- Guide teams on how to effectively use HPC, cloud compute resources and how to modernize their application for better performance.
- Collaborate across teams and domains
- Work closely with platform engineers, simulation engineering, and application teams
- Align with cloud, network, and security teams on platform integration
- Strengthen DevOps practices in HPC environments
- Support journey towards modern software architecture such as CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and platform components
- Promote DevOps mindset in traditional operations-heavy HPC setups
- Ensure we are data driven in what we do
- Support implementation of data-driven decisions, data for platform usage and resource utilization to enable better decision making.
- Contribute to roadmap and capability maturity
- Identify platform gaps and improvement opportunities
- Help define the future of compute platforms including AI and advanced workloads
Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Extensive experience working with Linux-based infrastructure and distributed systems
- Experience with HPC environments (e.g., clusters, schedulers like Slurm or similar)
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, or similar)
- Experience with Azure or other cloud platforms in a DevOps context
- Knowledge about engineering simulation process and tooling is valuable
- Programming/scripting experience (e.g., Python, Go, Bash)
- Experience with CI/CD, version control (Git), and automation tools (e.g., Ansible)
- Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana)

Additional information
This is a hybrid position based in Porto, Portugal and requires up to 15 days of travel per year.
