Vestas, the global leader in sustainable energy solutions and the world’s leading manufacturer of wind turbines, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated High Voltage Specialist to join our R&D team. This position focuses on the advancement of high voltage (HV) cables used in our wind energy projects. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise in high voltage engineering, materials science, and cable technology and will be instrumental in promoting innovation, improving performance, and ensuring the reliability of our HV cable products.

 

Responsibilities

You will join an experienced team with a high level of strategic exposure within Vestas. Your daily activities will be characterized by a very high activity level and requirements to engage in, coordinate and prioritize between multiple different projects. Overall expected deliverables include:

  • Lead and contribute to R&D projects aimed at developing new high voltage cable technologies specifically for wind energy applications
  • Investigate and implement designs to enhance the performance and longevity of HV cables used in wind turbines and related infrastructure
  • Conduct analysis to optimize cable designs and materials for wind energy systems
  • Develop and implement comprehensive testing protocols for high voltage cables, including electrical, thermal, and mechanical tests, tailored to wind energy applications
  • Analyse test results to validate cable performance and identify areas for improvement, ensuring reliability and efficiency in wind energy projects
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements specific to wind energy
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance, to facilitate project growth
  • Prepare and present detailed project reports and technical documentation
  • Identify emerging trends and technologies in high voltage cable systems for wind energy
  • Propose and develop innovative solutions to address current and future challenges in HV cable technology within the wind industry
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to HV cables used in wind energy projects
  • Work closely with stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of new technologies into existing wind energy systems
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including presenting technical findings and recommendations

 

Qualifications

As a High Voltage Specialist, you are expected to show a great example, challenge the organization and suppliers to contribute with high quality solutions and products. Furthermore, the following qualifications are desired:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering or Chemical Engineering. Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in high voltage products, HV cable design and product development

 

Competencies

The ideal candidate is expected to have:

  • Deep understanding of high voltage engineering principles, materials science, and cable manufacturing processes
  • Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE) and regulatory requirements for HV cable
  • Great analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced project management and organizational abilities
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills
