The Loads & Control (LaC) Module, being part of Research and Development (R&D), is responsible for designing and optimizing Vestas' products for optimal performance, by balancing loads and control strategies to design product responses to market roadmap requirements and translating the product roadmap into module requirements with full value chain integration.

The LaC Onshore Product Applications department focuses on improving the performance, cost-efficiency, and reliability of onshore wind turbine platforms after they enter the market. It plays a key role in extending product life, supporting sales, and ensuring technical excellence across global regions. Main activities include:

  • Optimizing turbine control systems to suit different climates and site conditions, helping sales teams offer tailored solutions
  • Improving product performance and reducing costs through technical upgrades and smarter component use
  • Maintaining and supporting existing platforms, solving design issues and ensuring compliance with certification standards
  • Collaborating across teams to develop strategic roadmaps and implement impactful technical improvements

This department bridges engineering, commercial, and operational needs to ensure wind energy products remain competitive and reliable throughout their lifecycle. This team is based in India, Denmark and Portugal.

 

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for developing control solutions to unlock new business opportunities for the existing Fleet, always ensuring compliance with design standards. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and tune control algorithms
  • Implement algorithms in MATLAB/Simulink
  • Analyze turbine and fleet performance data for optimization
  • Conduct feasibility studies for new turbine products (power, loads, noise optimization)
  • Verify developments through software testing and field trials
  • Support risk management activities (evaluations, failure modes, and effects analysis)
  • Contribute to innovation and conceptual projects
  • Maintain a holistic view of turbine components and control strategy

 

Qualifications

  • PhD / Master’s in Mechanical, Electrical, Electromechanical, Instrumentation & Control, Automation, or similar
  • 1-3 years of experience in simulation/modeling (MATLAB/Simulink)
  • Extensive background in mathematical modeling of electromechanical and hydraulic systems
  • Solid knowledge in model-based control design and tuning
  • Robust understanding of control theory principles
  • Knowledge of power generation concepts and aerodynamics
  • Wind turbine control experience

Additional information

This is a hybrid position based in Porto, Portugal and requires up to 20 travel days per year.
