The SW&C (Shells, Webs and Components) team supports both new process development, technology projects and CIM cases in the Blade module.The Shell, Webs and Components team is accountable for the blade design and process elements having the right TRL, MRL and SRL maturity. It is also responsible for the manufacturing process design and development of wind turbine blades. The team is made up of enthusiastic employees located in India, Lem Denmark, Isle of Wight UK and in Porto in Portugal.This is an exciting position involving travel to Vestas blades manufacturing facilities around the world working on existing products but also participating in development projects.



As a composite component engineer, you will design optimized composite components that can be robustly manufactured. Mainly working in a multi-disciplined and cross-functional team you will:

  • Design for manufacture of large-scale composite components using CATIA composite V5
  • Creating IMLs, ply splicing, producibility, flat patterns, laser projection) efficient GSD
  • Develop and maintain FMEAs to ensure robust and efficient design
  • Utilize Six Sigma methodology to reduce process variation and enhance process controls
  • Guide the integration of elements into new blade designs
  • Increase the design/process maturity of new blade elements across the full value chain
  • Creation of Manufacturing Bill of Materials (BOM). Ply-books and drawings
  • Support early prototypes builds and carry out design/process verification activities to ensure the intent is met
  • Define specifications across design, process, and tooling functions
  • Creating engineering request and changes via the Engineering Change Management system - ECM (Windchill)
  • Compile requirements and stakeholder feedback to develop, down select and de-risk component design
  • Provide supplier support, both internal and external



For this position we expected the following qualifications:

  • Hold a bachelor or master's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent, coupled with practical knowledge of composite manufacturing e.g. infusion technology, Pre-preg, component assembly
  • Experience within blade design, design for manufacturing, and have solid practical experience with CATIA composite V5
  • Knowledge of thermoset resin systems such as Epoxy and Polyurethane chemistry
  • Experience with running optimization and process development projects in manufacturing environments
  • Experience with statistical data & tolerance analysis
  • Experience in guiding FMEAs
  • Good communication skills in English, orally and written
