Tower Engineering in Vestas Power Solutions is maintaining and developing the complete Vestas tower program. The tasks range from structural engineering over highly specialized FEM calculations, requirements specifications, DFMEA, test planning and execution to risk assessments and compilation of certification documentation. Focus is on securing sound, cost-optimized and production friendly solutions and at the same time fulfilling the overall requirements to safety and functionality for the products. Additionally, process efficiency and coordinate time reduction is of key importance in order to fulfill Vestas's overall goals of delivering products, which are configured to customer needs in a timely manner. The team is located at 3 sites at present, Aarhus, Denmark, Chennai, India and Porto, Portugal. The team consists of 20+ highly skilled design engineers with background in mechanical/Civil engineering.



As an Assistant Lead Structural Engineer in Tower Structures your primary responsibility will be:

  • Delivery of platform projects of standard towers for the upcoming product range
  • Deliver tower and anchor cage structural calculations with internal software
  • Perform FEA simulations and assist in development/optimization of designs methods and processes.
  • Deliver the technical solution within quality, time and cost targets of the project
  • Support project scope definition and resources planning in collaboration with the Tech Leads and Project Managers
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks within the project scope
  • Perform Design reviews
  • Secure technical decisions to get the needed progress in the projects
  • Coordinate and align project issues with stakeholders
  • Provide feedback and challenge design solutions to interfacing systems to optimize final product design



  • Bachelor or Master's degree in Structural, Mechanical or Civil Engineering
  • Professional experience minimum 6 years
  • Experience in the design of steel structures, such as loaded structures, is an added value
  • Experience in concrete design
  • Experience in Structural assessments using FEA
  • Experience with design of towers for wind turbines or other masts/chimney structures is an added value
  • Technical leadership & Project management skills (technical project management)



We see the ideal candidate possessing the following competencies and personality:  

  • Good understanding of structural engineering and how failure modes can be generated
  • Design experience of large steel structures including certification with entities such as DNV / TUV
  • Knowledge on following areas: fatigue analysis, buckling Analysis, weld assessment, bolted joints design and fracture Mechanics
  • Knowledge in Concrete design, extreme, serviceability and fatigue wise
  • Structural standards knowledge [Eurocodes, IEC, DiBt]
  • Experience in structural assessments using FEA [Ansys is an added value]
  • Knowledge of dynamically loaded structures
  • Technical leadership, with the capacity of coordinating projects autonomously
  • Experienced in implementing large projects within and product development environment
  • Good communication skills in English, written and spoken

Additional information 

Your work location will be at Vestas office at Porto in Portugal. Up to 30 travel days per year shall be expected.
