The Shell & Webs Process team supports new process development, technology projects and CIM cases in the Blade R&D Segment.
The Shell & Webs Process team is accountable for the blade process elements having the right TRL and MRL maturity. It is also responsible for the manufacturing process design and development of wind turbine blades. The team is made up of enthusiastic employees located in China, Lem and Nakskov Denmark, Isle of Wight UK and in Porto in Portugal. This is an exciting position involving travel to Vestas blades manufacturing facilities around the world working on existing products but also participating in development projects.
Responsibilities
As an Assistant Lead Composite Engineer, you will develop process optimized for composite components that can be robustly manufactured. Mainly working in a multi-disciplined and cross-functional team, you will:
- Travelling worldwide, it is essential for this position. You can expect a minimum of 90 travel days per year
- Develop process for manufacture of large-scale composite components
- Develop and maintain Process FMEAs to ensure robust and efficient design
- Utilize Six Sigma methodology to reduce process variation and enhance process controls
- Promote the integration of elements into new blade designs
- Increase the process maturity of new blade elements across the full value chain
- Creation of Manufacturing Bill of Materials (BOM)
- Support early prototypes builds and carry out process verification activities to ensure the intent is met
- Define specifications across design, process, and tooling functions
- Creating engineering request and changes via the Engineering Change Management system - ECM (Windchill)
- Compile requirements and stakeholder feedback to develop, down select and de-risk component design
- Provide supplier support, both internal and external
Qualifications
For this position we expected the following qualifications:
- Hold a bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent, coupled with practical knowledge of composite manufacturing e.g. infusion technology, component assembly
- Experience within blade process for manufacturing or prototype environment
- Experience with running optimization and process development projects in manufacturing environments
- Experience with statistical data & tolerance analysis
- Experience in coordinating FMEAs
- Good communication skills in English, orally and written
