Specialist position tasked with supporting of all electrical engineering aspects of grid integration and plant control solutions of Vestas power plants during Sales, Construction and Service stages of projects in the US and Canada. The candidate will perform complex electrical engineering assignments with considerable latitude for action and decision making, track and manage changes to electrical grid code requirements and serve as mentor to other members of the team

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical Sales Support:

  • Preparation of Standardized Contract Templates for Balance of Plant Works
  • Review of customer contracts and where required, Balance of Plant subcontract documents, and assemble tender deviations.
  • Research and prepare formal responses to customer inquiries regarding wind turbine and plant capabilities.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations to customer, industry, and regulatory organizations.
  • Review utility interconnection requirements to ensure wind park compliance with grid transmission operators.
  • Participate in contract negotiations and project meetings regarding wind power plant electrical issues.
  • Support Technical Bid Engineer with Value Engineering and support initiatives
  • Review customer's electrical studies and provide recommendations for compliance and optimizations
  • Support Technical Bid Engineers in formulating Requests for Non-Standard Products to create site-specific solutions not currently available within Vestas portfolio.
  • Ensure standardization is utilized for streamlined product implementation across wind power plants
  • Train and educate sales organization on electrical product development

    Grid Code Compliance Support:
  • Globally support product design teams with new functionalities and ensure product capabilities to meeting existing and upcoming customer and markets requirements.
  • Grid Compliance Community Support, including Grid Code scouting, interpretation, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Maintain proactive communication with system operators and support them in using models and integrating the latest Vestas model into their system models.
  • Participate in Grid Code and Wind Industry working groups and technical committees.
  • Review new wind power plant system designs for North American code compliance.

    Electrical Pre-Design:
  • Initiate Engineering-Predesign studies and compile all the necessary electrical data and customer/site/grid code requirements for it
  • Review Engineering Pre-Design study reports and evaluate for external use.
  • Support Customers to optimize projects using the Engineering Pre-Design study results.

    Construction Support:
  • Assistance during customers/TSO/contractors' meetings
  • Prepare Functional Design Specification for Power Plat Controller implementation
  • Prepare Functional Design Specification for Yaw Power Back up System and other special control solution implementation
  • Prepare Grid Compliance Test Protocol (plans and procedures) and support during Tests execution
  • Support project commissioning approvals for grid connection (design, construction and commissioning)
  • Prepare site specific turbine and power plant controller settings for grid code compliant performance.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on power and control systems required
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical power and control systems; background in solving power and control system problems
  • Customer oriented with ability to see business value chain from customer and service prospective
  • Capable of staying productive in demanding situations and balancing several responsibilities in an environment with tight deadlines
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to build a strong network across different cultures and time zones within and outside of Vestas
  • Highly organized with the ability to keep information confidential
  • Demonstrated flexibility working in an evolving global organization.
  • Proficient computer skills, specifically in MS Office products and CAD tools
  • Be a highly motivated, self-directed individual and be able to work with little to no supervision.

NICE TO HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Electrical Engineering with Professional Engineers License
  • Specific experience in the implementation, operation, system standards and service of wind turbines and wind power plants
  • Some experience and knowledge of simulation tools such as PSCAD, TSAT and E-TRAN and PSS/E
  • Knowledge of international standards such as IEC, IEEE, UL etc., and familiarity with NERC reliability standards

COMPETENCIES:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite computer skills (Windows, Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, SAP and additional software programs)
  • Problem solving skills
  • Regular and consistent attendance
  • Effective written and oral communication skills; able to express oneself clearly in technical and non-technical terms in English
