Senior Engineer – Grid, Code, and Interconnections   

We are seeking a Senior Engineer – Grid, Code, and Interconnections to join our Vestas Technology (VT) team in Houston. In this role, you will perform technical analyses related to renewable energy integration, grid code compliance, interconnection requirements, and advanced power system modeling. You will collaborate closely with global R&D teams and engage with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and regulatory bodies to support grid compliance and interconnection strategies for Vestas power plants.  

  

Responsibilities:   

  • Perform PSCAD, PSS/E, and PowerFactory modeling for system impact studies, dynamic simulations, EMT analyses, and grid compliance assessments.  

  • Conduct interconnection studies aligned with requirements from ERCOT, PJM, MISO, CAISO, WECC, and other grid operators.  

  • Support grid code compliance evaluations, including voltage/frequency performance, ride-through capabilities, and IBR behavior assessments.  

  • Develop technical documentation, modeling reports, and compliance packages for regulatory submissions.  

  • Collaborate with cross-functional and global teams to integrate new technologies and provide engineering support for wind, solar, and BESS projects.  

  • Participate in technical meetings with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and project stakeholders.  

  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers on grid codes, modeling practices, and power systems fundamentals.  

  • Travel up to 20%  

  

Qualifications:   

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field.  

  • 10+ years of experience in power systems engineering, renewable energy integration, utility interconnection, or grid compliance.  

  • A comprehensive understanding of inverter-based resources (IBRs) and renewable plant modeling 

  • Experience with NERC, IEEE, and ISO/RTO grid codes.  

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to internal teams and external grid operators.  

  • Effective presentation skills and ability to work with diverse audiences 

  

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Proficiency with PSCAD / EMTP, PSS/E or DIgSILENT PowerFactory 

  • Experience in utility, ISO/RTO, OEM, or renewable development environments.  

  • Experience modeling hybrid power plants (wind + solar + BESS).  

  • Familiarity with EMT-to-RMS model validation or ride-through testing.  

  • Proficient technical writing skills for regulatory and compliance documentation 

  • Participation in industry groups (IEEE, NERC, CIGRÉ, etc.).
