Leader Non-Destructive Testing
Leads and oversees all non-destructive testing (NDT) activities to ensure the structural integrity, quality, and reliability of wind turbine blades throughout the manufacturing process. This role is responsible for managing NDT operations, analyzing critical defects, coordinating inspections, supporting engineering and production teams, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and leading a multidisciplinary team of technicians and engineers. The position also serves as the technical authority for NDT processes, customer interactions, audits, certifications, and the implementation of industry standards and inspection methodologies. Additionally, the role supervises NDT personnel while ensuring compliance with quality requirements and global NDT standards.
Responsibilities
- Become familiar with blade manufacturing processes, including layup, infusion, and assembly.
- Obtain certification in inspection methods and NDT services offered by the organization.
- Participate in PFMEA and control plan activities for new blade projects and develop PFMEA documentation for NDT systems.
- Ensure compliance with global NDT strategies, standards, and best practices.
- Review and approve blades and components based on NDT inspection results.
- Analyze defect trends, critical nonconformities, and inspection results to drive quality improvements.
- Coordinate inspection activities and support collaboration between Quality, Engineering, and Production teams.
- Serve as the primary technical contact for customers regarding NDT-related quality concerns.
- Lead customer audits and manage corrective and preventive actions.
- Develop, implement, and maintain training and certification programs for NDT personnel.
- Administer qualification exams and evaluate technician performance.
- Prepare, review, and approve NDT procedures, work instructions, and technical documentation.
- Conduct annual audits of NDT inspection processes.
- Perform Measurement System Analysis (MSA) studies and analyze inspection data using statistical and NDT software tools.
- Evaluate ultrasonic and phased array inspection data.
- Uphold company values while promoting a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
- 3 to 5+ years of experience in Non-Destructive Testing within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in wind energy, aerospace, composites manufacturing, or similar industries preferred.
- NDT Level I, II, and III certifications, with strong expertise in Ultrasonic Testing (UT).
- Strong understanding of blade manufacturing processes and composite materials.
- Experience interpreting ultrasonic A-scan data and other advanced NDT inspection results.
- Knowledge of quality management systems, calibration processes, GD&T, NCRs, and repair release procedures.
- Proficiency with data analysis tools and automated NDT systems.
- English proficiency, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with global teams and customers.
- Ability to work in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
