As a Lead Electrical Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring grid compliance, value engineering, and technical excellence for renewable energy projects across Northern, Central, and Eastern Europe.

Vestas Power Solutions (VPS) is where new product ideas are developed, matured, improved, and tested. Within Vestas Power Solutions, you'll find our department, Technical Sales Management - Onshore Central - Germany, as part of VPS Region NCE.

Our department oversees technical contracting, value engineering, customization, execution, regional product market requirements, product integrity management, and grid compliance.

This position is within the NCE Power Plant Solutions team, which comprises international electrical engineers. It falls under VPS Region NCE and Technical Sales Management Germany, where we support the organization in delivering solutions to customers across Northern, Central, and Eastern Europe (NCE) with a focus on Germany.

 

Responsibilities

As an Electrical Engineer in the NCE Power Plant Solutions team, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Engage with Transmission/Distribution System Operators, assessing compliance with Grid Codes and other grid-relevant requirements, and supplying grid-related market requirements to Vestas' R&D to ensure future compliance and efficiency of Plant offerings.
  • Contributing to the technical value engineering of customer renewable energy projects, collaborating with the Sales team's experts in their respective fields.
  • Ensuring compliance with electrical project configuration and requirements from customers and grid transmission operators. This involves timely responses to customer inquiries, and preparing clarifications and deviations for tenders.
  • Taking ownership of relevant technical risk assessment and mitigation during the Value Engineering/Negotiation phase, including managing technical annexes and contract schedules.
  • Gathering electrical data and customer/site/grid requirements for project grid integration studies and initiating Electrical Pre-Design (EPD) studies.
  • Reviewing and evaluating EPD study reports, supporting customers in optimizing projects based on the study results.
  • Taking accountability beyond the initial Sales phase, you technically support the Construction and commissioning phase, prepare grid compliance test protocols (plans and procedures), and support during test execution.
  • You will be engaged in keeping track of regional legislation (e.g. Grid Code) and participate in working groups where you are required to define the set of market requirements.

 

Qualifications

  • An Engineering degree (MEng/ BEng/ MSc or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or similar
  • Relevant Electrical Engineering experience of at least 2 years, with a good understanding of regulatory requirements, grid codes and grid compliance testing procedures
  • Proficiency in power system evaluations and studies, including steady state and transient studies such as short circuit, load flow, FRT, and power quality.
  • Familiarity with power system simulation software such as DIgSILENT, PSCAD, or PSSE
  • Comprehensive knowledge of WTG HV, MV equipment, and substation equipment, with a good understanding of primary and secondary systems
  • Understanding of industrial automation and networks, along with experience with PLC hardware, SCADA systems, communication interfaces and German electrical certification scheme (beneficial)
  • Project management experience within the wind industry is beneficial.
  • High proficiency in German and English, both spoken and written.
