Vestas Development is a strategic business unit within Vestas, focused on creating new growth opportunities while supporting the wider Vestas business. The team is responsible for originating, developing and optimising wind and hybrid renewable energy projects globally, using both in-house development capabilities and partnerships established and managed by the group. The Project Development Manager will be part of Vestas Development's UK and Ireland team and will report to the Head of Vestas Development for the UK & Ireland. Based in Ireland, this role offers an opportunity to contribute directly to the origination, development and delivery of onshore wind projects, while acting as a trusted advisor to internal teams and external development partners.

 

Responsibilities

The Project Development Manager will oversee existing and future project development agreements, ensuring development activities are delivered in line with agreed scope, budget, schedule and quality standards.

  • Coordinate development workstreams across the lifecycle, including site identification, feasibility assessment, land, planning, environmental, grid, technical, commercial and financial inputs; coordinate internal stakeholders across technical, legal, finance, procurement, construction, grid, sales and commercial functions
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks and opportunities, and ensure timely escalation of key matters to senior stakeholders; maintain accurate project documentation, reporting tools, risk registers and decision records
  • Manage and coordinate external consultants and subcontractors, including planning, environmental, technical, legal and grid advisers; engage with external stakeholders including landowners, local authorities, grid operators, environmental consultants, statutory bodies, local communities and development partners
  • Support preparation, review and submission of planning and environmental documentation, including Environmental Impact Assessment reports and related studies; promote a culture of safety, integrity, collaboration and environmental responsibility
  • Support country and regional leads in identifying, screening and originating development and investment opportunities across Ireland; contribute to regional development strategy, including market assessment, opportunity screening, partnership structuring, development planning and exit strategies
  • Support commercial negotiations with development partners, landowners, consultants and other counterparties; lead or support internal and third-party due diligence for development, acquisition and investment activities; prepare clear, concise and well-structured reports, presentations and investment papers for senior management
  • Review project budgets, cash flow forecasts and development expenditure, ensuring cost control and financial discipline; help ensure projects are optimised for performance, competitiveness, deliverability and long-term value

 

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering, Business, Planning, Environmental Science, Renewable Energy, Project Management or a related discipline
  • Minimum of three years' experience in project development, project management or infrastructure delivery, from a similar environment such as wind, solar PV, battery energy storage, hybrid projects, grid infrastructure or wider infrastructure development
  • Good understanding of the Irish planning system, environmental consenting processes and the development requirements for onshore wind projects
  • Solid project management skills, including planning, scheduling, budget control, risk management and stakeholder management and coordination
  • Familiarity with Environmental Impact Assessment reports, planning applications, planning conditions, grid connection processes and pre-construction compliance
  • Knowledge of the financial, budgeting and investment elements of infrastructure development projects and experience reviewing and interpreting technical, commercial, legal and financial documentation and handle
  • Fluent written and spoken English

  • Negotiation skills, building trust-based relationships; collaborative and pragmatic, working across international and cross-functional teams; professionalism, integrity and accountability; passion for renewable energy, sustainability and environmental practices

Additional information 

This position is based in Dublin, Ireland. For this role a full Irish driving licence is required and the role requires up to 80 days per year within UK/Irealnd.
