Service Department:

The Service business unit is the owner for the after-turbine sales business. Service operates, maintains, and executes all service contracts, T&M work, modified scope contracts, and CIM for various customer assets across North America. Service interfaces directly with operational counterparts within customer organizations maximizing turbine operation and performance.

 

General Purpose:

Oversees the Balance of Plant (BOP) activities on multiple site facilities: substations, collection/interconnect systems, roads and MET equipment including, repairs, inspections, outages, and maintenance within a specified region. Oversees the site electrical, High Voltage (HV), and substation support and response activities.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the site plant operations under the guidance of a Site Manager physically located at the same site and reporting to the Site Manager.
  • Successfully meets/exceeds key objectives and performance in the areas of safety results and behavior, execution excellence, team alignment/engagement, customer loyalty and financial performance.
  • Ensures that site level safety practices and protocol are in alignment with organizational standards and ensures compliance and optimal safety results.
  • Helps champion the journey to an incident, injury and illness free environment.
  • Maintains close partnership with the BOP Technical Support and HSE department.
  • Provides support to the Site Manager and BOP Team with promoting a highly aligned, engaged, and motivated organization that produces high-level results against Key Performance Indicators and operational objectives.
  • Helps the Site Manager to achieve and sustain a culture of execution excellence (safety focus, structure, work discipline) and continuous improvement with the site organization to advance capability and performance in all operational areas.
  • Utilizes Best Known Methods for optimizing operational performance at site.
  • Supports a learning organization within the operation using Best Practices to maximize BOP equipment maintenance and performance.
  • Supports change management activity and initiatives within their team.
  • Establishes and maintains highly effective relationships with the customer and internal partners.
  • Interacts with vendors for sites.
  • Travels approximately 30% as needed to support business needs.
  • Will perform BOP activities on the site facilities, MET equipment, collection/interconnect systems and substations including but not limited to minor repairs, inspections, outages, maintenance, gates cattle guards, weed abatement and snow removal.
  • Oversees testing, repairs, switching, grounding, and construction activities as required
  • Performs activities related to infrared inspections, battery maintenance, dielectric oil sampling and SF6 gas monitoring
  • Coordinates with BOP Lead Professional in substation maintenance and outage planning activities
  • Coordinates with BOP Lead Professional on all switching orders and work clearances related to high voltage activities.
  • Performs substation and transmission inspections in accordance with NERC compliance requirements
  • Works closely with Site Manager and Site Owner to ensure reliability of the BOP
  • Adheres to all pertinent HV OSHA & NFPA safety requirements, company policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to specifications and Procedures related to switching, safety and testing equipment.
  • Provides detailed written reports, including root cause analyses, to management
  • Performs periodic testing and calibration of the equipment used for BOP operations on the site
  • Ensures all BOP activities are done in a safe and professional manner

 

Education, Training, and Skills Required:

  • Associates degree in power generation or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with Substation and Collection System
  • 1-2 years of experience within the Wind Turbine Generator industry and/or license Journeyman / Electrician.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead day to day operations with an hourly workforce
  • Proven high standards and values.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability in coaching, mentoring, motivating, and developing employees to achieve a highly aligned, motivated and engaged team.
  • Effective change and conflict management. Proven decision-making ability with balanced risk taking.
  • Knowledge and experience with effective safety programs, practices, and procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge in Electrical Systems and Substations preferred; ability to understand and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience scheduling, administering, and managing projects to achieve successful outcome.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, active listening, written, meeting management, presentation).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed to meet business objectives.
  • Basic computer skills (MS Office) required and SAP knowledge highly preferred.
  • Classification: Restricted
  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, climb stairs, hearing ability to use close range radios, visual acuity including depth perception, field of vision and the ability to distinguish between colors, ability to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl as needed, as well as hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Comfort working in confined spaces, man-baskets, etc. at heights up to 10 meters.
  • Preferred Certifications before hire are AED/CPR/First Aid (must be instructor led), OSHA 10 (General Industry) and NFPA 70E (User’s guide to Electrical PPE) and NETA level I equivalent.
