Technician, Welding - Remote US

Transportation Welder executes welding, fixturing and shipment support of Turbine components via rail, vessel and truck. Supports factories with training and guidance in relation to Turbine component transportation. Supervises component loading in various Ports. Operates various Heavy Equipment required to store, distribute materials, tools, equipment, and products within establishments.
Position is based out of Cheyenne WY/ Northern CO with frequent travel around the country but primarily in the TX Gulf region.

As a Vestas Welding technician, you’ll support welding, fixturing and shipment support of Turbine components via rail, vessel and truck, ensuring your safety, and the safety of your team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Perform various welding activities including welding, gas metal arc welding (GMAW, flux core arc welding (FCAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) and flame/plasma gouging/cutting
• Setup manual welding and flame/plasma cutting equipment by setting parameters and making adjustments
• Prepare welding joints and repair surface/weld imperfections using flame/plasma cutting equipment and grinding
• Perform product quality inspections and make corrections as required
• Operate material handling equipment, forklifts and rigging, to fit-up and relocate component rail fixtures
• Perform daily maintenance inspections on equipment and correct minor issues
• Coordinate with Manager and other Transport employees to prioritize workflow, schedules and deadlines
• Supervise Loading and Securement of Wind Turbine components in various Ports.
• Ensure Loading and Securement of Wind Turbine components to Rail cars done per Vestas Specification and AAR Open Top Loading Rules (OTLR)
• Record and Document Loading and Securement of Wind Turbine components to Railcars in app based reporting system.
• Verify Loading and Securement of Wind Turbine components done to specifications and work instructions.
• Maintain a safe, clean and orderly work environment by following all safety protocols and performing routine housekeeping and workplace organization
• Perform activities of position as outlined in Vestas Work Instructions and Welding Process Specifications
• Operate heavy equipment including but not limited to all Class 1-7 equipment, 20+ Ton Forklift, Tractor w/ 3 point, PTO, Front end Loader, Grader, Compaction Roller, Skid Steer, 12k+ Telescopic Forklift
• Perform fabrication and repair of mild steel components to base-level structures
• Perform railcar interface modification according to blueprints and specifications
• Review production schedule, customer order, work order, shipping order, or requisition to determine items to be moved, installed, inspected, gathered, or distributed
QUALIFICATIONS
• High school or GED required; on-the-job/other related experience equivalent.
• Any of the following certifications preferred: Rigger level 1, Heavy Equipment Operations, Welding AWS D 1.1,15.1.
• CDL Class-A required
• AAR Open Top Loading Rules experience preferred.
• 3 - 5 years of welding or fabrication experience preferred.
• Essential skills: Welding, fabrication, metal repair, heavy equipment operation.
• Essential behaviors - teamwork, cooperation, continuous improvement, flexibility, customer focus.
• System skills - Microsoft Office, ERP / MRP systems, SAP preferred
• Typical notice for travel is 30 days. Short notice travel (24 hours or less) may be required occasionally.
COMPETENCES
• Have and maintain Class A CDL.
• Communicate Loading and Securement requirements to various subcontractors.
• Ability to follow work instructions with a high level of attention to detail.
• Ability to use computer systems and smartphone applications to generate reports.
• Ability to weld and fabricate with mild steel
• Meet all Physical Demands and Work Environment requirements.
• Travel Requirements: Works in various locations that will require significant travel =>50%. Typical travel is by company vehicle and can include driving across state lines with a company trailer. DOT regulated.
