Blades R&D > Components and Process Engineering > Assembly and Finish
The Assembly and Finish department is part of the Blade Module in Vestas and is responsible for all processes, CATIA 3D models, and drawings related to blade assembly, paint, and finish for both onshore and offshore blades. The department also supports new blade technology projects and provides engineering support to internal and external blade manufacturing factories.
The team consists of approximately 14 dedicated colleagues located in Chennai (India), Lem (Denmark), and the Isle of Wight (UK), with around five team members focused specifically on CATIA models and drawings.
Our role is to design blade components and manufacturing processes that are robust, repeatable, and easy to manufacture, enabling our production units to deliver high-quality blades in a cost-competitive way. We are accountable for developing and maintaining blade assembly, paint, and finish processes, including work with PFMEA, process validation, manufacturing requirement specifications, and CATIA models, drawings, and laser files.
Clear and unambiguous communication of design and process intent is essential, enabling our manufacturing colleagues to optimize their processes and tools within defined constraints. We are a proactive, results-driven team that turns ideas into reality while maintaining the highest quality standards. Responsibilities
- Create and maintain CATIA V5 models for components, composites, and assemblies
- Structure, manage, and update large-scale assembly models
- Develop and update surfaces for cured composite products, create DXF flat patterns, laser files, and drawings
- Perform interface checks and clearance analyses using standard CATIA tools
- Leverage macros, scripts, and automation solutions to streamline modelling, drawing creation, and repetitive design tasks
- Contribute to the development and improvement of CAD automation, templates, and knowledge-based methods
- Produce and maintain design and review documentation
- Implement OSOS and CN changes in line with engineering processes
- Manage design data, iterations, and change activities within Windchill PLM
- Support robust, manufacturable designs through close collaboration with stakeholders
- Create and maintain Jira workflow for AF project deliverables
Qualifications
- Proficient in CATIA V5, particularly Part Design, Assembly Design, and Generative Shape Design (GSD)
- Min 3 years of solid experience with CPD workbench, including ply modelling, ply splicing, producibility analysis, IML surface generation, flat patterns, and laser files
- Experience in creating and maintaining model-driven drawings, including application of GD&T
- Skilled in performing interface checks and clearance analyses (e.g. using LDA)
- Experienced in developing macros, scripting, or knowledge-based engineering (e.g. VBA, Knowledgeware) to automate CAD tasks and improve efficiency
- Experience in Windchill, including creating and maintaining cad objects and documents, managing design iterations, handling NPRs and change management
- Exposure to 3DEXPERIENCE (3DX) is considered an advantage
- Basic level of Jira workflow task creation and understanding is an added advantage
