Technical Bid Specialist

General Purpose:

The offshore Technical Bid Specialist role within Technical Sales Management is a highly diversified role that requires strong technical skills as well as a solid commercial mindset. You will work with our commercial Sales group, our customers as well as central engineering functions, to deliver the best possible technical solutions for our customers, targeting exponential growth in the offshore wind segment. This role is to ensure that the most technically competitive solutions based upon global and regional business strategies are delivered to Vestas customers, up to, including and following the conclusion of sales agreements. The TSS organization reports up through global Product Management and it acts as key link between regional sales activities and global research and development in the offshore wind segment.


· Maintain up to date knowledge on new technical developments of the offshore wind turbine product designs, installation, operation and maintenance, both within and beyond the applicant’s area of technical specialty

· Consult, train and present to internal and external customers on turbine siting, performance and turbine technical issues (including electrical, SCADA, controls, blades, towers and drive train)

· Consult as the technical subject matter expert with the development, negotiation and review of the technical aspect in sales contracts.

· After an intensive induction, you will be assigned to Vestas' sales activities for offshore.

· Train new team members on Vestas technology, and account/contract management

· Ensure timely and correct responses to customer enquiries, prepare clarifications and deviations to tenders, and direct technical negotiations together with the Sales team.

· Take full responsibility for the technical solution during the sales phase.

· Effectively supervise the technical value engineering of customer projects and direct technical negotiations as an active member of a Sales project team.

· You will need to network to build relationships with the key technical stakeholders in your customers' organizations, promoting their requirements inside Vestas and ensuring a winning technical value proposition.

· You will be the link between the Offshore Sales organization and VPS (Vestas Power Solutions) on your respective project(s) and topics.

· You will develop a strong understanding of the market and customer business cases, as well as project-specific and general technical market requirements.

Essential Functions:

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and other software programs

· Effective written and oral communication skills; able to express oneself clearly and in technical and non-technical terms in English to senior management and various stakeholders

· Ability to work flexible hours and with variety of cultures (coordinating with various time zones)

· Ability to effectively participate in a cross functional team that may include internal, external, domestic and international stakeholders

Education, Training, and Skills Required:

· Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical or aerospace engineering (or other engineering field) combined with commercial insight/interest or commercial background with solid interest in understanding of technical aspects.

· Master’s degree in Technical field preferred

· 3 - 5 years of functional/operational experience within the commercial engineering area, including exposure to commercial and legal contracts

· Ability to work with internal and external international teams to execute business strategies Strong understanding of turbine technical principles and turbine siting procedures

· Experience in directing technical negotiations, ideally of heavy machinery, power plant equipment or similar. Previous experience in wind energy or industrial plant environment would be beneficial

· Strong management and communication skills to ensure understanding of expectations, performance goal, and progress in a global business

· Ability to build highly effective customer relationships to ensure effective negotiations, resolution of disputes and promote strong customer relations

· Solid communication skills and prior experience interacting with a variety of technical and commercial stakeholders

· The ability to be flexible, organized and collaborative with proven experience working in dynamic and high-pressure tendering environments.

· Results-oriented, with the ability to be innovative and creative in building a technical value proposition and seeking out value optimization opportunities.

· High level of customer focus, with a holistic understanding of how technical solutions impact a business case commercially and contractually.

· Professional presentation skills with ability and confidence to present to business unit management.

· Flexibility for travel across the region (up to 25%)
