General Purpose:

The Director of Offshore Legal provides legal support for offshore wind energy projects in the United States. The position is responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating wind power plant sales, maintenance, and other related agreements; assisting with issues and agreements during construction and service; coordinating external counsel; supervising legal professionals; interacting with global legal and business colleagues on multi-jurisdictional transactions and initiatives; and advising clients on complex transactions and interesting legal issues. The position will develop and direct Vestas’ offshore legal organization, resources, strategies, agenda, and goals and deliver on the business and functional priorities.  

 

Responsibilities:

 

·       Draft, review and negotiate complex agreements that accurately reflect the commercial and legal decisions and comply with company guidelines and preferences.

·       Effectively coordinate external counsel on innovative and complex transactions.

·       Evaluate complex situations and provide practical, timely and accurate legal advice.

·       Work closely and effectively with General Counsel, senior management, other company lawyers and employees of all levels and cultures within a global organization.

·       Effectively supervise and develop legal professionals.

·       Exhibit solid judgment and possess effective leadership, decision-making, critical reasoning, and communication skills.

·       Develop and implement programs to educate and train business teams on legal issues.

·       Develop and implement systems, processes, guidelines, and forms to increase the efficiency of the delivery of legal services and support Vestas’ profitability.

·       Set and implement strategic goals and tactics.

·       Develop and organize budgets.

·       Handle project plans and follow up on business performance, conducting regular reviews with stakeholders and VPs.

·       Be a change agent and secure capability building through engaging with key stakeholders and the implementation of process improvements.

·       Ensure relevant risk assessments are completed.

·       All other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

 

·       J.D from an accredited law school, admission to state bar, and ability to practice law.

·       At least seven years of experience practicing law.

·       Experience with complex transactions.

·       Client service orientation.

·       Solid negotiating, drafting, and communication skills.

·       Flexibility with travel based on company needs and goals.

·       Experience in the energy, capital equipment, construction, real estate, or technology industries. (Preference)

·       Progressive leadership experience in an established organization.

·       Good, proven project and program management skills. Ability to develop, plan, and implement strategic short- and long-range goals.

·       Effective team leadership skills with ability to facilitate a cooperative work environment, motivate, coach, and facilitate employee development and performance.

·       Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of business units in a global organization.

·       Proven proficiency in analysis and problem solving.

·       Ability to develop and facilitate positive relationships among stakeholders.

·       Ability to operate effectively in a significant, ever-growing, and results-oriented environment; handle constant change with ease and flexibility.

·       Legal, business, and financial understanding.
