Then please take a look at this complex career opportunity with a large supplier of sustainable energy solutions.

Power Solutions & Vestas Quality > VPS Region NCE > Product Market Strategy NCE

VPS Region NCE represents the corporate product & technology organisation Vestas Power Solutions (VPS) in the regional business unit Northern & Central Europe (NCE), including about 30 countries with installed capacity across the spectrum of Sustainable Energy Solutions with On- & Offshore wind at the core. Our main responsibilities centre around technical contracting, technical value engineering, customisation and execution, as well as product integrity and regional product market requirement management.

In VPS Region NCE, we therefore:

  • Understand customer needs: we ensure that technical bid requirements and project-specific restrictions are understood, offers and contracts comply with country-specific requirements and track relevant interests of key project stakeholders.
  • Optimise projects: we optimise performance & cost variables of Onshore & Offshore projects alike to maximize value for all parties, i.e., utilising the Tech Sales, Siting & Power Plant Solutions communities' global practices, processes, and tools.
  • Manage technical risk: we analyse technical exposures and ensure that technical reviews are orchestrated according to process guidelines, prudently handling projects' technical risk profiles to pave the way for suitable technical project execution.\
  • Connect R&D to the market: we feed back into central R&D with techno-commercial market & competitiveness requirements to shape Vestas future product portfolio for the region as well as requirements for the further development of frontline tools & processes.

As part of VPS Region NCE, the Regional Product Market Strategy (RProMS) team assesses, shapes and prioritises regional gaps and opportunities, that serve as a foundation for the global market roadmap (Onshore & Offshore). RProMS acts as the primary regional contact point for technical and commercial aspects in that regard. To promote innovation and compliance of new products throughout the value chain and to the market, Product Market Strategy NCE cooperates with many stakeholders across Vestas.

Responsibilities

As part of your Master's Thesis, you are working on an innovative topic together with the sector leader in wind energy. The transition to an energy system based on sustainable generation assets requires fundamental changes in the grid architecture as well as in the mechanisms of the electricity market.

While the transmission grid operators determine the basic functionalities that generating assets are required to fulfil to support system stability, there are ancillary services that add additional value to system stability.

The task of this thesis is to summarize the existing and planned market-based ancillary service mechanisms for wind turbine generators in Northern & Central Europe, evaluate the technical and commercial feasibility and derive a position on future scenarios.

In addition, you will investigate how innovative technologies like hydrogen production, storage and hybrid utilization will impact the above-mentioned ancillary markets.

As part of your role as a Working Student, you also have the opportunity to get crucial insights into our daily business by supporting NCE Product Market Strategy on topics across different markets.

Here, your typical tasks are, for example:

  • Ensure efficiency improvement initiatives on tool and process sit,
  • Benchmark Vestas regional competitiveness and technical specifications and offers across core strategic themes for the region,
  • You communicate and liaise with internal stakeholders throughout Vestas,
  • Shape training material required as part of commercializing upcoming product releases,
  • Support maintaining market requirement databases in NCE.

Qualifications

You are in the last year of your Master's degree in the field of economics (ideally combined with some engineering or physics background).

Furthermore:

  • You have a proven, solid theoretical background in energy markets and financial modelling
  • You have good skills in MS Office (especially PowerPoint and Excel)
  • You can speak and write English fluently

Competencies

As a person, you are professional and dedicated by nature, with a solid sense of quality and advanced analytical and communication skills. You are creative with a good work ethic combined with an innovative mindset, and you appreciate working in a complex environment with innovative people.

Furthermore:

  • You are good at seeing the bigger picture by combining both the commercial and the technical perspectives
  • You can work individually and at the same time, you are a collaborator, always working towards a common goal
  • You are accountable, completing commitments as promised while having the courage to ask questions, seek clarity, raise concerns and offer ideas

What We Offer

This position could be the ideal entry ticket for a career in Vestas R&D or in a more operational-focused role at VPS NCE depending on your preferences. You can expect to be working around 15-20 hours per week as a student worker, which can vary depending on the workload required for the Master Thesis and for VPS NCE, respectively.

Despite having an established presence, Vestas is a fairly new company, inspired by our values: simplicity, accountability, passion and collaboration. This makes us innovative and agile, giving you the freedom to act creatively and individually in an international environment and highly diverse teams. We at Vestas value good ideas, speed, agility and results.
