Lead Wind Turbine Technician, Serious Incidents - North America

This position can be based anywhere in North America.  90%+ travel position, home every 6-8 weeks.  Most of the work is located is TX, OK, KS, IA and other states.  Vestas vehicle provided, other benefits included.


The AME Serious Incidents team's purpose is to allow VAME to provide a safe, efficient, and uniform response in cases of significant component damage, customer visibility, and safety risk. The SI team consolidates the expertise of many groups across the Vestas organization to assist in initial response and safe approach, damage assessment and material identification, safe removal of deranged material, component replacement and return to service, and root cause investigation.



· Leads execution of decommissioning and installations activities for serious incident projects.

· Closely adhere to all safety standards & procedures.

· Act as a safety advocate by intervening when unsafe acts are practiced. Promote / demonstrate safe behavior & practices at all times

· Identify gaps in safety standards, protocols & behavior, as well as safety risks in the operations / environment & implement as appropriate or provide solutions to higher level technical staff & management

· Performs first approach assessment and inspection of project scope, data collection and equipment evaluation.

· Outlines decommissioning plan, tooling needs, project personnel requirements, etc.

· Creates, communicates, and monitors updates to Plan of Day for key stakeholders.

· Evaluate situations & develop appropriate mitigations to safely complete work scope, including development / approval of Pre-Task Plans & defining robust situational isolation protocol.

· Continuously promote & demonstrate integrity & Professional initiative, including a focus on safety, execution quality, and overall Vestas quality performance.

· Perform advanced level operational wind turbine maintenance and installation tasks as discovered or assigned including proficient operation & use of specialist tools & diagnostics processes (e.g. data logger, Vestas Turbine Monitor, boroscope, thermal imaging) Interface & manipulate turbine control & mechanical systems to safely conduct service and installation tasks.

· Use a structured problem-solving process to perform all but the most complex troubleshooting & diagnostics, including use of technical knowledge, documentation & specialized analysis tools. Use comprehensive root cause analysis tools & process to understand & resolve technical issues at a turbine fixable cause level & participate in systematic root cause corrective action

· Will be a ambassador for change management initiatives & enables team spirit & collaboration.

· Build & foster effective internal & external partnerships. Interface with customer & respond to customer inquiries. Identify the need to collaborate and do so across internal departments to resolve customer inquiries. May refer complex issues or customer inquires to higher level technical staff or manager (demonstrate Good customer focus at all times improving their satisfaction & loyalty).

· Requires travel & working overtime, including working a flexible and variable work schedule as needed to meet business goals

· Role requires that employee drives & maintains a valid driver’s license

Responsible for equipment inspections, reports, and documentation is appropriately recorded and stored.

· Supports project manager in development of projects scope of work.

· Other project responsibilities as required.


Education, Training, and Skills Required:

· High school diploma or equivalent

· Minimum three (3) year technical wind turbine experience working with advanced hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems

· Associate or technical degree or wind certificate highly preferred

· LOTO III, D-Service, C-Service, B-Service, TBC Core 100, 200 & 300, Turbine specific 100, 200 & 300 are required for internal candidates; external candidate must complete within 6 months

· Internal candidates should be certified to Task-Based Certification (TBC) level 300

· Ability to demonstrate advanced working knowledge of industrial safety practices and protocols (e.g. Confined Space, Lock Out Tag Out).

· Demonstrated advanced use of complex power tools such as hydraulic rams, inductive heaters, and diagnostic tools, e.g. advance fluke meter functions, VOB data collection

· Valid driver’s license required

· Ability to obtain a passport preferred

· Solid attention to detail & ability to follow directions with precise execution

· Good interpersonal & professional behavior

· Able to effectively collaborate with employees at all professional levels, perform as a ambassador for change management initiatives, and respectfully follow supervision.

· Intermediate computer operation skills & familiarity with internet-based program navigation, and ability to generate & interpret computer data. Ability to mentor Tech I & II

· Strong ability to read, interpret, and understand drawings & schematics to develop procedures, validate work activity, and ensure that risk is identified & mitigated.
