Vestas Factory

Would you enjoy seeing your development skills and effort influencing both existing and new wind turbines? Then we would like to hear from you!

Vestas Technology & Operations > Research & Development (R&D) > Advanced Sensor Technologies

Vestas Technology & Operations (VTO) is the integrated CTO and COO organization within Vestas, encompassing the full industrial value chain — from Research & Development, Procurement and Manufacturing to Supply Chain and Quality. VTO’s mission is to transform the way Vestas engineers, sources, contracts, manufactures and delivers its products to consistently meet the highest standards for quality, cost efficiency and time-to-market.

Our department is responsible for developing and maintaining the advanced sensor solutions used across all Vestas turbines. We define the requirements for these sensor systems, own the overall sensor architecture and specifications, and ensure seamless integration across the turbine platform. Additionally, we conduct comprehensive testing and verification activities to secure the performance, reliability, and quality of the complete sensing system.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical ownership and delivery of assigned sensor systems, ensuring robust system requirements, high‑quality designs, able to complete technical documentation (incl DFMEA/CFMEA)
  • Integrate and customize advanced sensor solutions (such as smoke sensing, condition monitoring) into the turbine platform. Able to model function as per system engineering principles and mature the existing smoke sensing system, closing requirement and compliance gaps
  • Clarify responsibilities by defining system boundaries and being able to learn new tools to work with supplier SW and internal SW/IO teams
  • Drive wide span of cross‑functional collaboration with project managers, functional, technical leads, and dependent teams to align interfaces, timelines, and technical expectations
  • Guide and support team members by providing technical direction, participating in reviews, and contributing to decision‑making across modules
  • Ensure structured planning and execution by tracking tasks in JIRA, documenting progress, performing root‑cause analysis, and delivering according to Vestas Way to Market processes
  • Contribute to cost‑out, lifecycle improvements, standardization, and new technology development, ensuring solutions align with future architecture and business case processes. Focus on quality, simplification, and continuous improvement, especially in high‑urgency or tight‑deadline execution projects

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Engineering with 4–5 years of relevant industry experience, or a Ph.D. with 3–4 years of experience; preferred fields include Electrical or Electronics Engineering. Experience in the wind industry is an advantage
  • Demonstrated experience in technical project management, knowledge of using BoM, effective handling of engineering change management processes
  • Proven system engineering and requirements management skills
  • Proven capability in conducting DFMEA for new products or system designs
  • Practical experience integrating and implementing products or systems, covering both electrical and/or mechanical aspects
  • Knowledge of EMC, environmental testing standards relevant to sensor / electronics
  • Solid understanding of electronics, sensors, and IO/SW interfaces for sensor systems; familiarity with wind turbine applications is a plus

Competencies

  • End‑to‑end ownership of technical deliveries, including commitment to realistic timelines, transparent risk escalation, and clear justification when delays occur
  • Structured problem‑solving skills, applying logical reasoning, critical thinking, and data‑driven engineering principles to break down and resolve complex issues
  • Effective collaboration and stakeholder management, building trust through factual communication, consistency, and a solution‑oriented approach
  • Technical leadership, guiding team members with clarity, articulating tradeoffs and constraints, and serving as a reliable expert for sensor system topics
  • Excellent prioritization and time‑management abilities, with the ability to balance multiple tasks and deliver under tight deadlines
  • High attention to detail in documentation, DFMEA/CFMEA creation, design reviews, and verification of robust engineering solutions
  • Adaptability and continuous learning mindset, quickly absorbing new technologies, adjusting to changing project scopes, and maintaining a focus on simplification and standardization without over‑engineering
